Single season records and Career marks challenged in '07

Granted it would take the players current pace over 13 games(Bowl game included) but 2 single season records of some note are reachable this year.

Receiving Yds single season:
1435 yds 1998 David Boston

Pass receptions single season:
85 1998 David Boston

Brian Robiskie currently has 17 rec for 342 yds through 3 games. He is tracking for 74 receptions and 1,482 yds.

I know its early but he is tracking to be in striking distance of both and I thought it would be worth noting and keeping an eye on.

Also at his current 3 game pace Beanie Wells is tracking for 1,404 rushing yds in a single season. That would be the 9th best single season rushing total in OSU history.

If he kept up his pace from just the last 2 games he would be pacing for 1,860 yds and that would put him in striking distance of Eddies all time single season record of 1,927 yds.

Again, very early but worth at least noting and keeping an eye on.

OK, don't take this personally, please. Your post is making a point that has nothing to do with the likelihood of playing Louisville in a BCS bowl. I get that.

That being said... ain't gonna happen.

The Big 10 is not gonna get a 2nd BCS team this year. Notwithstanding all the talk about the national perception of the conference not mattering; this is one very real upshot of our sullied collective reputation. And it's going to cost the conference millions.

So the Big 10 champ, being the only BCS participant, plays either in the Rose Bowl or in the National Championship game.

If the Rose Bowl loses USC to the NC game, they will have first (or second) choice for a replacement. They won't choose Louisville. (probably 2nd place pac 10 team)

And we all know the likely hood of Louisville making it to the NC game.

On Topic: I think Robo has a very good chance at one if not both of the receiving records. I seriously doubt that Beanie will get enough carries to threaten Eddie's rushing record.

I tend to agree with your point considering the current state of the B10 and the opinion of the B10. But, if PSU and tOSU feature teams with 1 loss (or less ) then I could see two BCS teams.

Now, I don't expect that to happen, but I'm just saying that I could see that as a possibility, especially considering L'ville's meltdown this weekend which has weakened Big East perception and considering that only Oklahoma has appeared strong out of the B12.

I agree. A 1 loss OSU or PSU still has the rep and fanbase to warrant BCS consideration depending on what the rest of the field looks like of course. The at large field is already sans NoD, as rediculous as it is to have to say it, it does make a difference.

My post was being facetious, of course, in reference to Louisville's porous defense. Regardless, Jax nailed it. All the BCS-busting Cinderellas are through. Boise St lost. TCU lost. Hawaii will be doubted the rest of the year after that Louisiana Tech squeaker, and they really needed an unbeaten Boise St at the end of their WAC schedule to legitimize their stake, and now that's out the window too.

Notre Dame is not getting a BCS slot, so that now means all four at large slots are up for grabs. Wisconsin, Penn St, and Ohio St are all already in the Top 10. And Michigan could conceivably still wind up winning the conference anyway. Unless all four teams at the top of the conference tank, the Big Ten is sending two to the BCS.

No conference can have three representatives. We can throw out any shot at an ACC team getting an at large, too. I'd say the Pac 10 and SEC are a cinch to get two of the slots, which leaves the other two at large up between the Big 10 runner-up, the Big East runner-up, and the loser of (either) the Red River Shootout or the Big XII title game.

I think the Big East winds up the odd man out.

I think that sums it up well. FWIW, CFN has tOSU and PSU in their way-to-early-BCS proections.

Now, back on topic...I honestly don't think Robiskie is going to catch any of those records, but he IS off to a great start.

The sad truth is, I realized that there was an extra BCS game (and therefore 2 more at-large bids), right about the time I finished typing my post. Realizing that this would require me to actually think, I decided to just hit Submit instead. It was much easier.

I agree that if 2 out of the 3 Big 10 contenders (OSU, PSU, Wisconsin (smaller fan base but very loyal)) end up with 1 loss, then the Big 10 gets 2. If 2 of the 3 have at least 2 losses, then it is much dicier.

BSU's win over Oklahoma last year just might mean that Hawaii is still in play. They legitimized the non-BCS teams to a certain extent. And Washington just might be good enough to legitimize Hawaii's season regardless of Boise State's record.

With Rutgers' and Louisville's remaining schedules, I could see both of those being at 1 loss (or less). If that's the case, I think the Big East gets the nod over a 2 loss Big 10 runner up.

it's not a single season record, but the Buckeyes tied the consecutive regular season winning streak with 21 on Saturday, a mark which was set from '67-'69... so, we're looking at an historic game this week, regardless of the caliber of the opponent. rest assured that Tressel is aware of the record, and will have the mark firmly entrenched in the kid's heads.

• The Buckeyes current winning streaks in conference games is at 14.
• The school record winning streak for conference games is 17, most recently equaled from 1974-76.
• If the Buckeyes tie the record against Purdue on October 6th, they'll have to wait 2 weeks to break the record against Michigan State because of the mid-season OOC tilt with Kent State.
• The conference record winning streak is held by John Cooper, who ensured that Michigan remained undefeated for 19 games from 1990-1992. So I guess it's actually Michigan's record.
• Ohio State can tie the record against Penn State and set a new mark of 20 straight conference wins against Wisconsin a week later.
• If the Badgers remain undefeated until that game, their current nation's longest winning streak (I-A (FBS)) will be snapped at 19 games, returning a favor from the 2003 season.
• Either way, if the Badgers and Buckeyes are undefeated when they meet on November 3rd, someone's 19 game streak is going down.

I believe Troy Smith set it last year with 30
