But you are the reason... the show is there or it exist.

I split this off as it seems it might end up evolving in to its own discussion.
Now, you can have at it. |

IMO gameday atmosphere and the passion of the fans (especially) has everything to do with how successful a program is in the long run. Afterall, if no one cared, the program wouldn't get the money it needs to be top notch.
What makes a school great are its students, faculty and alumni. Therefore, I am part of what makes Ohio State great. Say what you want about yourself. As for being loud and all that crap to get a recruit, I agree that it doesn't make a difference. |

OSU vs. scUM is the best atmoshere in college sports imo, and our fans get as loud and energetic as one can imagine from my own experience, but that atmosphere and our fan's energy at that game, or when we travel and can be seen and heard @ an away Washington Game is not what makes tOSU great...a portion of it, sure, but not close to the top of the list. I think that was the point. Any recruit who decides to attend, or not attend tOSU based on our fan's vocal prowess at any particular contest is 'missing the boat' imo. ![]() |

To be fair, for those who don't know how this started, LJB's point (as posted in my first post above) is that the fans do not have any influence over whether a recruit signs with a school, and not that fans, alum, etc. have NO value at all.

IMO, Fans and Alumni are the only things that make a school or program/team truly great. |

I interpreted it in the context of recruiting, and fans have no bearing on recruiting decisions, as far as GameDay atmosphere, noise level, cheer coordination, etc ...
If decibels were all that mattered to recruits, Michigan would be starting 22 walk-ons. |

Evidently, game day atmosphere is important to some:

But how much of that sticks with a kid months after the particular visit? If a kid already loves that program, then I'm sure it can reinforce his decision. If a kid can't make up his mind between a couple schools, and one fan base is like the Cameron Crazies while the other is Golf-clap crazy, then it probably will be a factor in his decision. But how many times have we heard after a kid leaves his official visit, him declare it the "best visit ever" and then the next school and the next? Not all, but certainly quite a few. The emotions of a crazy atmosphere can easily wear off...as we've seen with several recruits tOSU have hosted. Coaching Staff, Facilities, Tradition, The Program itself (of which Ohio State's are a part) stands up against any other school's well after the crowd at a football game chanting your name fades away. |

I'll put it this way....there are many things that go into a persons decision to go to a university. But if a recruit decides to come to OSU and doesn't believe that the fans, tradition, alumni are important, than I wouldn't want them to come to Ohio State. You win with people.
