2007 Penalty Breakdown
The LSU Football 101 thread got me wondering how Ohio State has been doing in the penalty department this year, especially in terms of defensive and personal fouls. Here's a table breakdown by game and I'll do my best to update this after each game. The stats are from the official OSU site:

NCAA Fewest Penalty rank #76. But, we have been substituting liberally.
I'm sure the coaches have a better handle on this than the numbers suggest.

What would be intersting to see is a comparison on our opponent's penalties versus us.
Every year since the '02 NC season, we have seen fewer penalties called against opposing offenses than they normally get against teams other than tOSU. It's a consistent trend every year since '02 so there has to be something to it.
There have already been a rash of obvious holidng penalties not called against our opponents this season and I don't want to see something like the Iowa game of '03 debacle cost us a game.

I think it would be interesting to see how many offensive holding penalties we receive vs. how many our oppenents receive. I bet it is getting called against us significantly more than our opponenet.
It is funny how Gholston and the boys are in the backfield all day long but are never held. However, we end up holding all the time. There are plays where Gholston gets dragged down from behind but no flag. Then we run the ball for a 2 yard gain and get a holding call. It drives me nuts.

I just scanned through the Play-By-Play looking for 15 yard penalty calls against LSU's and 'SC's defense or special teams.
Not as many to throw into the hopper for LSU - though the 15-yarders committed seemed to be on the order of 7 or so through the five games, that seems to be a little low - so a resource like that found for the Buckeyes would be instructive.
For 'SC they had 15 yard hankies thrown at their defense by my count 12 times in four games. That is a pretty high rate. Plus, it is obvious from play-by-play that these cannot all be PI penalties. Many came on QB runs, or RB runs for example, implying either a direct personal foul or the hard facemask penalty.
Again though, I could not find the breakdown of those penalties. Plus, I am guessing that some of them would be offset not making it into the NCAA statistic count.

That personal foul was a BAD CALL anyways. The guy was in bounds when contact was made and he started to go down, IN BOUNDS! Then came the flag.

You are correct sir!
The positive things I see from this penalty breakdown is that:
1. There are very few of the 15 yarder- unsportsmanlike/personal fouls.
2. Since the first game the offense is shooting itself in the foot much less often. The false starts have disappeared and we only get illegal shifts and motions called a minimal amount of times. Typical JT.
