Clifford suspended (Washington OK to play) In Championship

Well, this definitely is an opportunity for one of the DB's to step up and make a name for themselves in front of a national audience. Two full weeks of practice should help significantly, so it's not like they won't have time to get ready. Often times it's not the physical aspect of the game, but the mental aspect, that determines who starts and who doesn't. Physically, we have the talent to get the job done, especially if our front seven play lights out.

My guess is that Amos is the guy who steps up and gets the job done. I would not count out Scott either, the guy can play ball.

Cornerback is arguably the most important position on any defense (a pass-rushing DE is the other) - that's why so many CB's are "over-valued" in the NFL draft. To lose a starting CB - any staring CB - is a big loss to a defense. Losing one of Washington's calibre should not be underestimated - he's certainly not the "easiest to replace" on defense. I'd place Washington fourth behind Gholston (pass-rushing DE), Jenkins (lock-down CB), and Laurinaitis (spiritual leader of the D). Although Chekwa has occasionally been impressive in the nickel packages, he is clearly a step down from Washington, and I have real doubts about O'Neal, Amos, Lane or anyone else as his replacement at nickel back.

I agree, I don't know that I would agree with this evaluation of Washington but I also keep in mind that this scouting report wasn't the product of some talking head from The Sporting News. This was the insight of a Big 10 coach speaking on a condition of annonimity. You never want to have to find out how prepared your reserves are before a game of this magnitude but fact is Amos beat out Washington for the starting position in the Spring and his injury is what got Washington on the field. The coaches had to see something in Amos then...no?

Chekwa I agree has been inconsistent this season but this is what you come to a place like tOSU for, if it is his time to step up then he better be ready. If not there will be somebody behind him waiting for his shot.

Sorry, I just can't see this as being a HUGE loss. Is it a loss, absolutely, but this would and will not be the deciding factor in whether tOSU wins or loses on Jan. 7th.

I went to the open practice back in August and was very impressed with a freshman cb from Dayton named Donnie Evege. I came out of the practice that night thinking to myself that Tress had done it again and plucked a tremendous talent who had been flying a bit under the radar. I don't know for sure but I have not seen him play this year and I'm guessing they want to red shirt him. If for some reason this guy gets some play time in the LSU game watch him because I think he is going to be something special. He wears number 30. JT runs a very tight ship. I think everyone knows what is expected. Everyone that has violated some rules have paid the consequeses. This isn't the first time that someone or people have violated rules and was suspended for a bowl game....(Troy Smith...and look how he bounced back)
