I understand about the huge fanbases dispersed creating a somewhat national appeal, but that is still osu and michigan alumni, not native's of those particular areas. And that is still a very minute part of the population in a lot of areas.
Oh, I don't know. My cousin lives on a nondescript street in Minnesota, within a few miles of the University of Minnesota. On football Saturdays, he tells me, there are no less than 3 Ohio State flags hanging on his block.

....I realize there are some others that I've left out. But for some reason those are the ones that I grew up on that are still intact.....Pitt vs Penn State and Okie vs Nebraska are victims of conference expansion.

LSU was always my favorite SEC team growing up. I loved watching Dalton Hilliard and the WR Hill....and the LB Sanchez. Those guys were great. LSU was always a sleeping giant in my opinion. Saban obviously woke them up. Just as I think Tressel has awoken Ohio State.....although we were fairly lucid during Cooper's years.
I really don't remember watching any of those guys play to be honest. I was born in 1978, and really didn't get into LSU strong until the very early nineties. Probably when i was 13 or so. I remember Hilliard playing for the Saints though, and i loved him then.

Heck, i am tired of argueing, I'll just say it is a rival game everywhere and be done with it. I reserve the right to change my mind tomorrow, however. :-)

Hmm...i think i got it figured out. I am in the south, too; there may be less of your alumni here and that is why i don't see it.

Congrats on the multiposting.

I'd say the Alumni thing is a bigger factor in places without a premier college football team of their own and/or "retirement" cities.

I wouldn't call myself a world traveler, but I get around. It seems everywhere I go I run in to someone wearing OSU gear. Hell, I was in Amsterdam and saw a dude wearing an Ohio State sweatshirt. Boston. New York. California. Arizona. Minnesota. Florida. etc.

It could be just that I'm primed to notice such things in that I'm an Ohio State fan, but I don't see Auburn gear, or LSU gear etc. all over the place. I have seen Bama gear and Florida pretty much everywhere (Well, not Amsterdam) so OSU isn't alone in this. Just saying it happens.

Haha, I actually got married in disney world and stayed their ten days. There was a guy who saw my lsu shirt that worked on the Aerosmith rock-n-roller coaster. He let me go through the secret passage to the front of the line a couple of times; it was great. I've been to Baltimore, all of Florida and the east coast, texas and everywhere that hurricanes hit, and pretty for north cuz of ice for that matter and there are always LSU fans because i am looking for them, just as you said you always looking for tOSU fans, and see them. You should start looking for LSU gear and see waht you can find. :-) I am not sure this post really had a point, but i hope there is one in there somewhere.

Not to mention that Michigan and Ohio State are the #1 and #3 winningest teams of all-time in terms of winning percentage, and that The Game is virtually always the last regular season game for both teams (actually, always for Ohio State, while Michigan did play at Hawaii the week after The Game in 1998).

I do tend to agree that rivalries are regional but most of it is just the egos of the fans. We are here arguing which rivalry is more significant but it is really irrelevant seeing as how we are OSU and LSU fans and we will never change each others opinions. I love the OSU-UM rivalry personally because I lived in Toledo, which is right in the middle of it. The week gets more and more exciting as it inches closer to the game and its just a great atmosphere to be around in the city. OSU-UM probably is bigger on the national stage because they are two of college football's traditional powerhouses.

But I don't think you can deny that LSU-Auburn has had better games the past 3-4 years. To tell you the truth, I can't think of any rivalry as closely contested as LSU-Auburn.
The past 4 years, the game went down the last play.

Just because the media doesn't hype this game doesn't mean that LSU and Auburn fans don't hate each other, cause we do. I can tell you, I felt a lot of anger and hate when the Auburn offensive lineman almost ended Glenn Dorsey's playing career. I dont' expect an OSU fan to get all oozy about our rivalry with Auburn because honestly, you'd have to be an SEC fan to understand it, and i don't mean that in a negative way at all.
