I wouldn't call myself a world traveler, but I get around. It seems everywhere I go I run in to someone wearing OSU gear. Hell, I was in Amsterdam and saw a dude wearing an Ohio State sweatshirt. Boston. New York. California. Arizona. Minnesota. Florida. etc.
It could be just that I'm primed to notice such things in that I'm an Ohio State fan, but I don't see Auburn gear, or LSU gear etc. all over the place. I have seen Bama gear and Florida pretty much everywhere (Well, not Amsterdam) so OSU isn't alone in this. Just saying it happens.

And here's one to blow your socks off, bkb! Tonight, at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa, I saw your avatar on the back of a car (Calvin [censored]ing on the UM logo). Went to get my camera out of my car and the guy was gone when I returned. I'll keep an eye out. How's that for global branding?

In the last six years, 3 times winner has gone on to play for Nat'l Title, each year had some impact on conference title. I'd say it's as closely contested. Frankly, until just a couple days ago, I didn't even know LSU-Auburn was anything more than another conference rivalry.
|
Only 2 of those games were truly down to the wire out of the past 6 years. I said closely contested, you obviously don't understand the meaning of that phrase because I am talking about the game itself and not the implications of the game. Again, I think you missed my point. Good try though in trying to change the subject.
And it is a conference rivalry, just like OSU-UM, and as I stated earlier, I don't expect Big 10 fans to understand it because none of you obviously do. I'm just trying to enlighten you guys on the fact that there are rivalries that exist outside of yours which have had closer games.

I can agree with that. Just don't believe that your rivalry is the only great one out there. It has history and great implications on the national stage. Like the 2006 game, but the game itself was hardly that contested, OSU had it the whole way and Michigan was playing catch up all game. The 2002 and 2005 games were great games. Your rivalry might have national attention but don't act like you guys are the only ones that hate each other with that intensity.

So, I have to ask, is all this talk of LSU - Auburn a tad one sided? Akin, if you will to, the way that Penn State claims their yearly tilt against the Buckeyes as a rivalry - though for LSU-Auburn clearly of much longer duration.

If you ask an Auburn fan which team they need to beat to win the west they would say LSU. And they hate when they lose to us because they know that they just lost the West at that point. They hate Bama for sure, but Bama has been irrelevant for a while now and I'm not takin anything away from the Iron Bowl because I believe it is up there, the SEC West is decided before then in the LSU-Auburn game. We have quite a few memorable games in our series and we won't ever overtake their in-state rival because Bama will always be there.
Before you decide to bash the SEC, try reading about the Earthquake game, the Barn-burning game, the "Upright game", and the last few games.

He also left off the 26-20 game in 2001 where Michigan had the last posession and was driving when time expired. The 2002 ended with us intercepting the ball on our own goal line as Michigan was driving for the game-winning TD. In the 2005 game, Michigan was yet again driving in the waning moments when tackled the TE in bounds to run out the clock, after rallying from a 21-12 deficit with 7 and a half minutes left in the game.
He knows what the meaning of the phrase is. Do you know the meaning of the phrase "Don't troll or your ass will be banned?"

Agreed, the Bama game has been icing on the cake for the past few years Auburn. LSU/Auburn game is the best SEC west game for the past 7 years. It became a modern rivalry with the cigar game and has been the hardest hitting game in the SEC outside of Florida/Georgia which is a slobber knocker every year.
Tubberville commented last year that his team was not the same physically after playing LSU because the game is so physical. LSU defiantly was not the same team after playing Auburn this year. Auburn is so tardo that their mascot is a tiger but they have the war eagle fly around the stadium, ???WTF???. Dumbass rednecks, everything about Alabama sucks...
Coming out of another thread, I truly believe the Georgia/Florida and Auburn/LSU are rivalries created and enhanced by our conference and championship game system.

this is our point
you say Bama is irrelevant....give them 2 more years and they will be highly relevant. Bama is relevant much more often than AUburn over the past 20 to 30 years.....and if I were betting I'd say the next 20 to 30 years.
This is precisely our point about Ohio State vs Michigan....this game has affected the NC picture and the BigTen picture so many years going back to the '20s and '30s. These 2 teams have dominated a strong conference for most of 70 years like Alabama dominated the SEC for about 20 years.
I suggest that you SEC fans study up on the history of The Game a bit more so you can understand the perspective from which we come when we talk about The Game. I don't care if Alabama and Auburn are in the same state.....Ohio State and Michigan hate each other just as badly....plus more is riding on our game in most years than the Alabama vs Auburn game.
Now...I have no doubt that there are highly spirited rivalries in the SEC. And with the level of play that many teams in your conference display, these are truly blockbuster matchups a lot. But those are not rivalries that stand the test of time like The Game does.
