JL - no brainer as captain
Beanie - JT doesn't pick jr's as captains but Beanie isn't a typical jr Boone - along with Beanie and JL these three are a very intimidating trio to see walking out for the coin toss Jenkins - Malcolm was almost as big of a shock coming back as JL and Tress knows he's a team leader too. |

think what type of a message it will send to have guys like boone, jenkins, and JL as captains. these were all guys who turned down secure fortunes to play their senior season at TOSU.
i am sure that will sink in with guys who are becoming juniors and will be facing the same questions this time next year. |

I was thinking about this earlier today. We usually have a vBet on who the Captains are going to be. This year, there is no point at all for having a vBet on the defensive captains. As for the offensive captains, there are 3 very good choices and 2 spots.

Here is my stab;
JL (duh) MJ Robo TB as a side note we may learn something early about the team dynamics if TB is not elected captain (I was amazed when Chad Henne, a four year starting QB did not make captain in his senior year) |

Animal and Jenkins are locks for the defensive captains. No doubt about it.
IMO, Beanie deserves to be a captain even as a junior. The way he stepped up for his team in big games as a sophomore should only show what he will do as a junior. He became one of the leaders of the team, and was everything you could ever want out of your star football player. If Tressel decided that Laurinaitis was worthy of being a captain as a junior, then Beanie should have the same honor. The other spot can be debated. But I see Boone getting it, because you want to give atleast one lineman a captain spot, and Tressel knows and respects the o-line for what they do, and Boone for stepping up and coming back for another year. Robo and Boeckman are honorable mentions, though. |

Captains
Wow, what tough choices for next year. Freeman is very, very deserving. A great young man who is humble, mature and well spoken. He will be giving the Buckeye Nation five years of his life...even with family to support. May be Tressel will allow three defensive captains next year, I hope. If not, and that he is not one of the four, then he should be honorary captain for the homecoming game and the last home game.

Buckeye1, I agree that Marcus deserves a captaincy as much as anyone, as he had more reason for the others to have left early even if he wasn't rated so high. Wow what a luxury having so many guys so deserving of Captain honors, it will be interesting to see how JT handles it.I also agree that Beanie is very deserving, but maybe JT holds it back in the hope it adds to Beanies incentive to return for his Senior season. |
