I think that if Terrelle played here, he would be allowed to run more than Troy (Troy's senior year). I think Terrelle is just bigger, faster, and a better runner at the QB postion than Troy was (Don't get me wrong, Troy was amazing at running and could have been a running QB if he wanted to). I would see him in more of a Vince Young roll where he will throw a lot, but also run more than enough times too. I don't want his running game to be shut down because it adds another dimension to our offense. Anyways, as long he's a Buckeye, the staff can do whatever they want with him. I trust them. |

I think Troy started to run less and pass more to show he was an NFL caliber passer, and not just a tremendous athlete playing the position.

Given his #1 in country incoming status, I doubt that Pryor is looking solely at Saturday as the day on which he will play this game. It is therefore in his interests to follow that example early. Ohio State offers him the opportunity to do just that.

BGriff,
I understand that. But I don't want Terrelle to stop running to prove that. I'd rather him in a Vince Young role than a Troy Smith role. And I'm not saying that because of the comparisons to Young. I just want him to be used in that way. By his senior year Vince was throwing quite a bit but also still had the running dimension in his game. |

The dude ran 3 times and scored 3 TD's? He didn't get tackled!!! But we're suggesting he runs too much!?!?! Doesn't that seem a bit odd?

Internet would be gurus talking about whether a kid runs too much? A bit odd? Not at all.

I believe I agree with BGriff......the wild thought crosses my mind that Tress brought in a pro coach to talk with Troy, and 'have a come to Jesus meeting' with him about what it takes to be a pro Q-back. He'd already proven he could run, and he needed to prove he could pass. Heck he had better stats than the Mighty Brady (Quinn) at Notre Dame both in the air and on the ground. It wouldn't be out of the realm of reality that that is what Tressel has told Pryor.
'Course, that's only my humble opinion, but if Tress can do it with Troy, he can do it with Terrelle. 'Course, so can Mack Brown.......as he did with Vince. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah - almost high school odd.

The threat of Troy Smith running on a given play was enough for opposing coaches to have to game plan against it. It does not matter how many times it actually happened. Troy ran less and less as he progressed towards his Heisman Trophy, but it's not like his running didn't get him to that point. Hell yes it got him to where he was. But it was NOT the actual running that did the trick. It was the possibility.
In Voyd Carr's gameplan, he knew that the Buckeyes were not going to run Troy Smith left, Troy Smith right, Pitt on 3rd down, then punt. The ability to spread the defense out was obtained within his sophomore and junior seasons. The yards that Troy was capable of piling up as a run-first option was a serious threat to opposing defenses, and I would venture to guess that stopping that QB-run threat was deeply involved in opposing game plans. Then something happened. Smith came out throwing. He wasn't running like he had before, and you can only imagine the look on other coaches' faces when they realized that they were going to get burnt by Troy, whether it was via the pass or the run. They already knew he could run. He proved that he was also a passer. A Quarterback. The leader of the team, that had 10 teammates on the field every play listening to his every word. The parallels become huge when you factor in the rawness of Terrelle plus the possibilities that his future teammates will offer. Forget the guys we might end up with, the 11 players coming into OSU that are already in the bag are a very good start and a foundation to what he could eventually accomplish inside the 'Shoe. It's certainly not fair to Terrelle to throw around any Troy Smith or Vince Young comparisons, as Terrelle will eventually certainly carve out his own "the next Terrelle Pryor" comparisons. His only job right now is finding the coaching staff and teammates that are going to allow him to achieve everything that he knows is within his reach. Last edited by schwab; 09-28-2007 at 08:21 PM. We probably shouldn't refer to him as "TP" .

Tonight's WVU game made it clear that Pat White isn't the only QB on campus. He still has work to do (the backup - name escapes me), but the job will not simply be handed to a star recruit after White leaves.
