I'm convinced that Troy got his Heisman, not because he was a 'do everything player' but because he involved everyone around him. I agree with the posts above in that matter. Distributing the ball and making everyone around him better is what makes a great athlete.

Magic Johnson and Larry Bird each were magnificant athletes in their own right, but their greatest contribution was the fact that they made everyone else around them better. Troy did that. He could have run for 1,000 and passed for 2,000 and I can almost guarantee that OSU wouldn't have been as good a team as it was. Sure he scooted earlier than he had to, but maturity (and I suspect a talking to by Tress) said, 'stay at home and pick up your receiver progression.' And voila, he won the Heisman. And became a dynamite passer in his own right. Pryor (to tie in the thread) has the same attributes. As a youngster he seems to be running more than passing. He'll get better, and have the added weapon to 'take off' and get the critical first down yardage, etc etc etc.

And he'll look great doing it in scarlet & gray, with little stick-ums on the helmet.........I just wish he'd commit NOW, end my suspense (regardless of what encouraging things I read), and have a couple of the big uncommitted names fall into line.

I didn't say he wouldn't be a quarterback. Vince Young was a quarterback too, but he still ran the ball (and he was drafted number 3 in the draft). I'm not saying that Terrelle should be a run first then throw player. I'm saying that I would like running the football to still be a part of his game. Troy RARELY ran the ball his senior year and if that's what it took for him to be drafted then so be it, but Terrelle is a different player. He isn't Troy. I believe that he can continue to run the ball and still make it to the NFL (just as Young did). Just because he's a quarterback doesn't mean that he can't run the ball and that it should be forced out of his game when it could add a whole new dimension to the offense. He can still develop just as much as a passer as Troy did, but that doesn't mean that he should no longer run the ball. I'm not saying play him like a Pat White in a gimmicky offense; I'm saying play him like a Vince Young (and no I'm not saying that him and Vince Young are the same) where he throws the ball a lot (more than he runs by far) and still runs the ball a significant amount. I don't see what the big issue is with that? If he is good enough at what he does, then he'll be drafted AHEAD of where TS was drafted (potentially) and I think his passing ability COMBINED with his running ability would be the reason why.

No one was saying we should prevent Pryor from running at all. What I was saying he needs to be pass-first and only run when absolutely needed or when the play specifically calls for it. Tressel didn't keep Troy from running as you imply, but rather made his focus more on going through his progressions rather that darting at the first sign of pressure.

Okay. I definitely understand that. My question now is, why did Vince run more, did he not go through his progressions as well, or is there another reason?

Was Vince's offense designed especially for him to run more frequently?

In Pryor's case, I will definitely want him to develop as a passer in regards to reads and progressions, but I think sometimes, if he sees a running lane (as I did many times Troy's senior year) I'd like him to tuck it and run just because he is so dangerous with the ball in his hands.

under young, texas ran the option read almost as their base offense... which basically the quarterback decides who has the opening each play on whether to run, hand off, or pass.. the bucks have with troy where more of a spread team.

Free video from Rise Magazine

Quote:
Jeannette (Jeannette, Pa.) senior quarterback Terrelle Pryor is rated the nation?s No. 1 football recruit in the Class of 2008 by RISE. Blessed with a tremendous combination of size, speed, athleticism, Pryor has drawn comparisons to NFL superstar signal caller Vince Young for his unique ability to completely take over a game by himself.

As a junior, Pryor passed for 1,720 yards, ran for 1,709 yards and accounted for 44 total touchdowns as Jeannette won the Class AA WPIAL title and finished as state runner-up. This year, Pryor has guided the Jayhawks to a 5-0 start by passing for 533 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 383 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 21 carries.

Here?s video of Pryor from last year?s Class AA state final against Wilson (Easton, Pa.)

In all the videos I have seen Pryor is going to need a couple of years in my opinion. Vince Young took a little while and he was the best type of mobile QB I have ever seen. VY did not want to play basketball too and that is the big difference. Pryor is an unbelievable talent and perhaps a redshirt first year would allow him to adjust going to College/ Football and playing Basketball. That is why I am not reading too much into Penn St and others giving him the best chance to start.

eh, maybe I'm just being lenient by siding w/ Pryor but I'm fine with his actions.

He stood up for a friend and if the (lol) "rent-a-cop's" only real complaint was that Pryor was being "mouthy" then I have a hard time seeing any real issue let alone a reasonable case.

should Pryor respect the law/authority? yes, but I'm sure most people, especially kids, can relate to cops (or mall cops/security) who are just looking to abuse their power mainly in the direction of kids.

If what Pryor said was true, he was provoked and this charge should be thrown out. Either way, it's not a big deal. He could've handled the situation better with the "rent-a-cop", although I find it hard to have any kind of respect for a mall security guard on a power trip, if thats really what this guy is.

He's 18 years old. He's going to be mouthy.

The good thing?

He was fighting to get back $21.00. At least we don't have to worry about Pryor taking money from anyone...

Here's my take on it at my blog...

It sounded like it was actual West Mifflin Police Officers. This is seriously going to get overplayed.

I don't know anyone else that probably would have handled it differently. Seriously, if someone is messing with a girl friend or a girlfriend, I'd probably get into a physical altercation...he didn't.

If I was 18, I'd probably try and get my $21 back too. Perhaps this just shows us leadership skills...

The protection of females is an innate function for a male of any species. Those of us east of the ol' San Francisco Bay, anyway. (Not you, Mili)
