QB Terrelle Pryor (official thread)

holy, dear God. after watching his (sophomore!) scout video, it is apparent that it would be an injustice to himself and the game of basketball if he didn't play collegiate basketball but only football. terrelle is a phenomenal athlete (duh!), plays great at and above the rim, has a very nice outside shot, and is exceptional with the ball in his hands in the open court and in traffic. his court awareness and the passes that result from it are a-1.

Pryor says he wants to play basketball and football in college. Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Pittsburgh and Penn State are his leaders.

Any new information on Pryor? It would be great to get this guy for Football and to add to the already great 2008 basketball class

If there was any new info it would be posted, but as of now it seems as if Ohio State is in great shape.

wow, i really hope we get this guy. if we can get him, and then redshirt him, he would be in great position to take over after henton/boeckman/schoenhoft are all graduated.

There is no way you redshirt a guy like Pryor. There is no telling that he will ever be an effective QB. He has all the tools to be a great one, but also if lacking accuracy he could end up not playing QB.

That making him a great canidate for WR or even DE, LB, S, TE. Bascially anywhere on the field.

Therefore you bring him in, see what he has at QB and then let him try and see the field at other positions during his freshmen year, while still letting him get reps with QBs. He is too good just to sit and wait for the QB job to open up.

If he is set on playing QB and that is where the staff decides for him, a redshirt is the likely scenario.

Could be, but if he is good enough to get time at WR his freshmen year why not give him time?

And he is probably the #1 athlete in the country so I would think he would be able to play if he adjusted to the college game...

IF is the key word...and a huge assumption that a HS kid with limited experience at WR could suddenly gain the necessary polish needed to be an effective D-1 WR.

If the plan is to play him at QB, I don't see him wasting a year of reps elsewhere.

I'm not saying that he should be redshirted because he wouldn't be able to adjust to the college game his first year, I just think that with all of the capable QBs we'll have during his first year, he would be better off saving a year of eligibility to learn the ropes and to mature. I'm a big believer in redshirting (unless the freshman can really contribute and is needed during his first year), because it gives the player time to get used to the college level, and will be a year ahead for the rest of his collegiate career.

If he really wants to stick to QB, which is a strong possibility, then he would be in position to take over after Henton leaves, which would leave him 2 full seasons at the least, if he does come to tOSU, and redshirts.
