Terrelle Pryor talks, but not about recent hoops incident

Highly-ranked high school quarterback Terrelle Pryor recently told Rivals.com that not much has changed in his pursuit to pick a college.



Pryor, Jeannette (Pa.) quarterback, told everyone on national signing day that he had yet to choose between Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State and Oregon.
He's still not in that big of a hurry.]

"With the basketball playoffs going on, I don't really know my schedule," Pryor told Rivals.com. "So I haven't scheduled a visit with Penn State yet or done much there. We just won our quarterfinal game against South Fayette, so we keep on playing."

Pryor said that because of his schedule, he also hasn't visited Oregon but would like to before making a decision.

While the rest of the world waits for national No. 1 recruit Terrelle Pryor to pick is school, West is taking action. Pryor's high school coach told CBSSports.com this week that Memphis is among "one or two" additional schools that have tried to get in on Pryor since the Jeannette, Pa., quarterback narrowed his choices to Penn State, Ohio State, Oregon and Michigan.

In the ultimate case of which-of-these-things-is-not-like-other, West is actually taking his shot against superpowers. Why not? You never know until you try.

Jeannette coach Ray Reitz said he received a call recently from Justin Crouse, West's administrative aide, trying to persuade the quarterback to visit Memphis this weekend. Coincidentally, that just happens to be when the monster Memphis-Tennessee basketball game is going down. West wouldn?t be the first football coach to bring a recruit in on a big basketball weekend.

Jeannette used a first-half surge to gain an advantage that it wouldn't relinquish, and the Jayhawks (19-4) earned a 62-54 victory against Bishop Canevin (15-13) at Gateway.
Junior guard Jordan Hall led Jeannette with 21 points and senior standout Terrelle Pryor scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, had 7 assists and 4 blocks. He was 7 for 9 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.
The Jayhawks, built a 29-18 halftime lead and withstood a 35-point performance from Bishop Canevin's Steve Mackin.

Jeannette boys fend off Bishop Canevin

Jeannette used a quick start and then thwarted off a frantic fourth-quarter comeback by Bishop Canevin to reach the WPIAL Class AA finals for the second consecutive season. Behind a 21-point effort by Jordan Hall and a triple-double by 6-foot-5[1/2] senior Terrelle Pryor (19 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists), the Jayhawks (19-4) held on to defeat Bishop Canevin (15-13), 62-54, before an overflow and standing-room-only crowd at Gateway High School.
Hundred of fans who purchased tickets didn't get inside the gymnasium until halftime when some of the fans from the Indiana-Hampton girls game decided to leave.
The victory puts Jeannette in the finals against Beaver Falls at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Palumbo Center. Beaver Falls defeated Jeannette in late December a week after the Jayhawks won the PIAA Class AA football championship.
"It's rematch time," Pryor said. "I'm not saying anything except we better be ready to play."

Jeannette, Beaver Falls chase history -- and each other

Jeannette and Beaver Falls were ranked 1-2 in WPIAL Class AA boys' basketball at the start of the season. Jeannette was in the title game only a year ago while Beaver Falls was in the championship three times from 2002-05.
So, it comes as no surprise Jeannette and Beaver Falls will play for the WPIAL Class AA title. But, from a historical perspective, their meeting is one of the most unusual happenings in WPIAL sports.
Jeannette and Beaver Falls also played in the WPIAL Class AA football championship game in November. Now get this: Since the WPIAL was formed in the early 1900s, this is only the second time the same two schools have met in a football and basketball championship in the same school year.

Jeannette hopes to erase early loss to Beaver Falls

Jeannette senior Terrelle Pryor smiled when he heard Beaver Falls junior Todd Thomas was pretty much predicting that the Tigers would win the WPIAL Class AA basketball title. On Saturday, Beaver Falls (22-3) gets its chance when it tangles with Jeannette (19-4) in the WPIAL Class AA title at 1 p.m. Saturday at Palumbo Center. Beaver Falls is riding a 13-game winning streak.
Pryor said Thomas never learns when he heard about the bold prediction. Thomas also predicted Beaver Falls would stop Pryor and defeat Jeannette in the WPIAL Class AA football championship. Jeannette won, 61-12.

Amid decision time, Pryor focuses on hoops title

PITTSBURGH ? While his choice of where he'll play college football remains on hold, quarterback Terrelle Pryor also has unfinished business with the Jeannette (Pa.) basketball team. That, too, is grabbing attention.



Squeezed into the bleachers, about 2,200 fans packed the suburban Gateway High School gym Wednesday night as Pryor led Jeannette to a 62-54 victory vs. Bishop Canevin (Pittsburgh) in the Class AA semifinals of the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League tournament.
"I'm sure the reason it was an overflow crowd was because of Terrelle Pryor," said Terry Smith, Gateway's athletic director and football coach. "No one left after the first game between the Indiana girls and Hampton girls. Everybody wanted to stay and see Terrelle."

The 6-5? 225-pounder, rated the top football recruit in the nation by Rivals.com and Scout.com, said his final four schools remain Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon. But his focus now is Saturday's WPIAL title game against Beaver Falls.

"I'm trying to get us a championship," said Pryor, whose school won the state Class AA football title.

Behind a tremendous effort from senior superstar Terrelle Pryor, Jeannette stormed to an 82-68 victory against Beaver Falls in the WPIAL Class AA boys' basketball championship this afternoon at the Palumbo Center.
Pryor scored 39 points, had 24 rebounds and also posted 10 blocks.
The win gave Jeannette a rarity in WPIAL history -- the WPIAL football and basketball titles in the same school year.
Todd Thomas scored a team-high 25 points for the Tigers but couldn't offest Pryor's effort.

Just like in football, Terrelle Pryor showed the WPIAL why he's the best. Pryor put on a show in the WPIAL Class AA Championship game. He scored 39 points, pulled down 26 rebounds and had 11 blocked shots to rally Jeannette to an 82-68 victory over Beaver Falls Saturday at Duquesne University's Palumbo Center.
Jeannette defeated Beaver Falls, 61-12, in the WPIAL Class football championship game.
Jordan Hall scored 19 points for the Jayhawks, who claimed the school's first basketball title.

Once again, Terrelle Pryor's amazement index rolled off the charts Saturday. The 6-foot-5 1/2 Pryor led Jeannette to a WPIAL Class AA basketball title at Palumbo Center with one of the best performances in championship game history.
Pryor scored a game- and season-high 39 points, pulled down 24 rebounds and added 10 blocked shots and six assists, while Jeannette defeated Beaver Falls, 82-68, before a crowd of more than 5,000 people. It was the first basketball title in school history, and it gave the Jayhawks what used to be a WPIAL rarity -- football and basketball championships in the same academic year. Jeannette defeated Beaver Falls, 61-12, in football.
Friday night, Central Catholic (AAAA boys) and Serra Catholic (A boys) also won basketball titles to match football championships won in November.

? Developments: Insiders said yesterday that Pryor is expected to visit Columbus today for the Ohio State-Wisconsin men's basketball game. It will be his first trip to OSU since his official visit the first weekend of November. Insiders said he might bring Jordan Hall, a junior standout on the Jeannette football team and, like Pryor, a key member of the basketball team.

The Terrelle Pryor watch includes a sighting in Columbus. I just saw the star high school quarterback from Jeannette, Pa., walking into the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, Ohio State's football headquarters, just after 1 p.m. today.

This is the first visit to the Ohio State campus for the nation's top-ranked football recruit since he made his official visit for Ohio State's home football game with Wisconsin on Nov. 3.


Terrelle Pryor looked like this when he visited Columbus in November. He's back today.

This is the unofficial visit Jim Tressel and his staff have been hoping for ever since the winds shifted a bit in Pryor's recruitment and NFL quarterback Charlie Batch became more involved. Batch went with Pryor on his only other official visit so far, to Michigan, but neither Batch nor any coaches nor family members came with Pryor to Columbus in November.

The only adult I recognized with Pryor today was his quarterbacks coach at Jeannette, Roy Hall. Hall's nephew, Jordan Hall, a junior at Jeannette, is also being recruited and has an offer from Penn State and reportedly from Pitt and Michigan as well. Expect Pryor to take in the 4 p.m. basketball game between Ohio State and Wisconsin.
