We just don't know what Henton can do in a Big Ten game.
We just don't know when Pryor will be ready.

Notes to JT:
1. You're over-eager to put TP on the field. Don't be so over-eager. That's your achilles' heel.
2. Don't just push Henton out or disregard his ability all together. We're not done cleaning the underside of the bus that ran TB over yet.
3. Be fair and logical. Coach Bruce is watching you.
5. You don't know what Henton can do in a Big Ten game (or in the Super Bowl, or even in the NHL for that matter)
6. You don't know when Pryor will be read - so just put him out of your mind until the little white button on his tight pops out!

Nah - if they tried that, the team would be penalized by only being able to attempt FGs on offense for the rest of the game. Fortunately, it's possible to score only FGs and still beat a team that has scored at least one touchdown. It's possible, but I'm not sure if that's ever happened.

I pride myself on trying to be fair to the players because they are just kids. But how can you not get excited - even over-excited - about a kid who is the most physically gifted QB recruit - and perhaps recruit at any position - in our long and storied history? The only prospect I can recall who comes close to him is Vince Young. And Vince Young turned out to be next Vince Young.

So yeah, I confess. Assuming Boeckman is the starter in our first blow out if Henton takes the field - as I expect he will - I will be eying the bench between plays to see if Pryor is warming up. And you are right. That is not fair to Henton.

But Henton - however good he is and however much he deserves to play (and I hope he gets every snap he earns) is NOT going to be the next Vince Young. He is not big enough and he is not fast enough. He could be another Troy Smith. He could be better than Troy Smith. But he does not have Pryor's potential upside.

And as a fan I desperately want to see Pryor become the next Vince Young. Or better yet, the first Terrelle Pryor. You will never hear me chanting his name when Henton or anyone else is on the field (although many fans will do so). I will support the team equally whether it be Boeckman, Henton, Bauserman or whoever. But what I want - what so many fans desperately want - is to see Pryor on the field becoming what we all hope Pryor can become. It is not fair. It may not be logical. But it is comletely natural.

The good news is the more objective and level headed coaches actually get to make these calls.

#3372 and it's only the 2nd of April. Compare that number of posts to the Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith thread - 4797 posts considering he hasn't even taken a snap.....whew.


It really is a microcosm of how much pressure this young man is in store for....and with all that, when he does prove himself worthy of all the attention and hype: early on or not, he should be revered for the manner in which he did it. And the expectations that surrounded his arrival as well.

Eh, some of that has to do with the age of this site...When Troy was recruited, BP was still over at BN I think. Troy didn't come with the same hype as Pryor, true, but the numbers themselves are a bit misleading. Plus the TS thread was lost for a while (though the replacement thread ultimately merged when the original was found)
