I was skeptical how quickly TP could gain reps and see the field but the Henton departure significantly changes that. He may be physically superior, but the way JT runs his ship you have to learn the offense before you get reps over someone who already knows it. Henton had that advantage. A little ding to either Bauserman or Boeckman that would limit practice reps and TP is suddenly playing with the 1s and 2s.

Jim commented on the youtube vid that that is incorrect and he actually measured in at 6'5.5".

I have read that elsewhere as well - that the 6-3.5 report was in error.

Yes, Henton's departure sure does shake things up. I think it will affect Bauserman more than TP, although it does increase the overall # of reps available. This year, Baus will be groomed for the backup, TP will be 3rd string, but have his own package. I think the Henton situation affects the scout team more than anything. Will TP run the scouts, share with Baus, or will a walk on take some reps? I think were still in better shape at QB than we've been in the Tressel era. Henton is doing what's best for him. His career would have been dependent on three guys getting injured or performing badly, not a good situation. Sounds like he'll get a chance to start next year. Hopefully he can get some offers from 1A schools for 09. Sometimes when things don't go as planned, everyone benefits.

I hate to see AH leave, but I agree that the added reps can only help TP as well as Baus. TP may get a chance to do more than just run some package stuff since he will probably get a few more reps and be a little better prepared.

I'm thinking Pryor will be a 2a/2b role this year.

IMO, he's the starter in 2009. You don't land this big of a fish and let him sit in the freezer.

am i the only one who thinks that the reason AH is leaving is because JB had such a good spring that he jumped up to #2? i think that his transfer had a whole lot more to do with JB than it does with TP...

It was both; Had TP not come, AH and JB would be battling for next years starting position
- Meaning he's at least #2 for 09 and only an injury away from #1. However had AH stayed,
he would be fighting up-hill against an impressive JB and a herald TP.

Its really a collection of several things I'd say.

Antonio has to do what's best for him and this is a smart move on his part. Bauserman appears to have passed him and you have one of the most hyped recruits ever coming in as well. He has the ability to really shine and now he'll most likely get his shot. I hope he finds great success, he'll always be a Buckeye.

As for how this impacts TP's playing time, I don't really think it changes a whole lot. It's looked like JB passed him this spring and TP was gonna see the field no matter what. I don't think Henton would see action over TP, particularly with the staff presumably designing packages to get him on the field.

On Henton: Its one thing to battle a QB for a starting job. Its a drastically different task to battle a pocket passer (Bauserman) and the nations most hyped recruit that plays ball the exact same way as his self.

TP playing time: It certainly changes TP playing time. He is assured to be the one called on 80% of the time when needing a trick play from the QB - ala Ted Ginn in the Outback Bowl. We all know that Tressel would have been used him, but he would have held back so that he can use his senior ranking QB (Henton) first. Tressel is all about upperclassmen coming in first - if plausible and possible.
