It might be WELLS/PRYOR in the backfield together with giving Pryor any option to pass/run/catch. I really like that idea

So, Tressel will count on a true freshman to lead a comeback from a "significant" deficit, yet won't trust him if the game is close...

I don't expect Pryor to be in the game in a pressure situation making throws down the field. Would I be surprised if he came in and ran the option in a pressure situation? No. Would I be surprised if he came in and did some short passes to keep the defenses honest? No.

I honestly think it would hurt us for him not to take some snaps in pressure situations. Being in a pressure situation doesn't mean he has to make decisions that a freshman can't/shouldn't make. I don't see him being a leader of drives. That's Boeckman. But I do see him coming in and doing some things to keep the defense guessing.

He brings too much to the table to keep him on the sidelines. Same with Posey, IMO.

I think Crashcup meant "out of the game" when he said "down significantly."

If it's a significant deficit, the game's already over. No pressure there. Putting in a true frosh in a close game, who is more liable to mistakes, is more risky.

I do think TP will see meaningful minutes, FWIW.

I don't know Tressell inside out but I would expect to see Pryor come in on third and shorts only and maybe at the beginning of the game for a direct snap play to throw USC off guard. Regardless of how talented he is, he's a freshman with two games as a backup under his belt. Boeckman is a senior with years of experience. I don't see Tressell putting the game in anyone's hand bu Boeckman's.

More importantly is how little he (Pryor) was used in the second game against a decent set of defensive backs. I have to believe that Tressel was throughly [censored]ed by the teams performance against OU as it kept him from being able to get Pryor more snaps. I'd bet dollars to donut holes that the plan was to get up by 14 and turn the game over to TP.

The only games in which I have seen Tressel go against Tressel ball were the Michigan game in 04 when he turned Troy loose and the 05 Bowl game against Okie State where he lost his starting QB. The man is just not a gambler.

I think you might see Pryor in for a few new wrinkles, maybe as a receiver, running a reverse or catching the bubble pass, but probably not a single snap from center unless its a 21 point spread in either direction.

Also, as good as Pryor is, I'm guessing he can't yet truly read most of the defenses he sees and the USC game is not the time you want to throw a mobile quarterback into the fray against a team that uses an extensive blitz package. Sure he might make them pay for a few of those blitzes but he is more likely to not see most of them coming whereas Boeckman has seen defensive formations like SC's before and won't be totally out of his element.

Rather than that, do the good old end around to Hartline or Robiskie and get them to toss a TD bass to Boeckman.
