Newport Beach, Ca. ? Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis and cornerback Malcolm Jenkins are among 42 of the nation?s top collegiate defensive players who have been named to the 2008 Lott Trophy Watch List, it was announced today.


Laurinaitis, a 6-3, 240-pound senior from Hamel, Mn., has already won the Nagurski Award as a sophomore and the Butkus Award as a junior. Jenkins, a 6-1, 208-pound senior from Piscataway, N.J., was an All-American selection last year.

There are seven repeat nominees for the award, including Laurinaitis, a finalist last year. The other players nominated for a second straight year are Jonathan Casillas of Wisconsin, Maurice Crum, Jr. of Notre Dame, Brian Cushing of USC, Zack Follett of Cal, Nic Harris of Oklahoma and Darryl Richard of Georgia Tech.

Thirty-five different schools are represented on the Watch List.
Named after Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy is awarded to college football?s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Now in its fourth year, The Lott Trophy is the first college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player.

Am I mistaken or do the Bucks have a major candidate for every major award. Laurinaitis, Jenkins, Boone, Wells, and if Boeckman has very good year it's not like the O'Brien is spoken for.

DALLAS (FWAA) The Football Writers Association of America has released its 2008 Outland Trophy Watch List, which includes two linemen from its 2007 All-America Team : Arkansas center Jonathan Luigs and West Virginia offensive tackle Ryan Stanchek. Seventy standout linemen from around the country have been nominated for consideration in the preseason.

The Outland Trophy has been awarded to the best interior lineman in college football since 1946. With input from the entire FWAA membership, the winner is selected by the FWAA's All-America Committee, which selects the association's 25-man All-America team and picks the three Outland Trophy finalists and the winner.

The 2008 Outland Trophy announcement will be on Dec. 11 in Orlando, Fla., on the ESPNU Home Depot College Football Awards Show. Three finalists will appear on the show. The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be on Jan. 15, 2008 in Omaha, Neb.

Alex Boone has a GREAT shot at winning the Outland Trophy. I also look for James Laurinaitis and Brandon Spikes to battle it out for the Lombardi and Lott Trophy.

I would give him a slight edge in the Heisman race, only because Tebow has already won one and they don't like to award someone two. But those are still my top 2 guys.

If Florida's running game picks up this year, as expected, you'll see Tebow's numbers go down considerably......to the betterment of the team.

I totally agree. His TOTAL numbers will certainly go down this year. While his running game should certainly not be used as much this year, this resulting in no where near 23 touchdowns on the ground, he should great improve his passing game. I look for him to throw for over 4000 yards through the air and close to if not more than 40 touchdowns.

But trust me, if we win the SECCG and are undefeated, it would be hard not to give Tebow the Heisman once again.

Agreed. 2,000 yards for Beanie Wells may be a bit of a stretch but I think he gets at least 1,800 yards and possibly anywhere in the 1,900's. He is that good. Touchdowns should be in the 20's.

4,000 yards passing for Tebow may be a bit of a stretch.

But I don't see why he couldn't break 3k. That said, I'll be seriously
interested on how Florida's ground game picks up, because if it does; #15
is gonna have to refine himself as a bit of a pocket passer. I think
watching that transformation will be exciting to see if he can possibly
evolve into a proto-typical QB with some mobility.

Last year Tim Tebow completed 234 of 350 passes for 3286 yards with a 66.9% completion percentage. He also averaged 9.39 yards per attempt while throwing for 32 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. He was sacked only 13 teams (6 in the Georgia game) and had a QB rating of 172.47 (which was second in the Nation).

I see no reason why he should not pass for 4000+ yards and 40+ touchdowns.
