Given no NC and 1 loss, which loss do you prefer?
If tOSU goes 12-1 this year and doesn't win the National Championship, which game would you prefer to be the one they lose?
Please don't change the parameters for the discussion. We'd all like to have an undefeated season and/or a National Championship, but those aren't options in this poll/thread. Last edited by BB73; 03-31-2008 at 11:59 PM. |

I really want to beat USC, and there's no doubt there is a lot for this program to gain by going out to LA and getting a win. However, there isn't as much to lose by losing that game as there is any other on the schedule. The other non-conference games would be embarrassing to lose. If the Buckeyes finish with one loss and it comes to USC, that also means that they went undefeated in Big Ten play and will have won another conference crown. It would mean that Ohio State beat M*ch*g*n again. It will mean that they avenge their only conference loss from last year to Illinois. It will mean that they beat Wisconsin at Camp Randall, which is always a nice thing for a Big Ten team to have on its resume. It will mean the Buckeyes get into a BCS bowl game, and win it.
So yeah, going 12-1 and losing to USC (for as much as I'd like the Bucks to beat them) is still a damn fine season. If the loss comes somewhere else? It'd be a little more up in the air then. |

Michigan State.
I never, ever want to lose to Michigan, so that's not an option. I'm old enough to remember USC breaking our hearts in the 1975 and 1980 Rose Bowls (both by a single point, and the 1980 loss costing us the 1979 NC). I want to beat those [censored]ers in the worst way, so they're "non-option #2". As much as I'd be excited for my hometown team YSU to score a monumental upset over a I-A all-time powerhouse, I don't want it to be at our expense. I hate Wisconsin, so there's another non-option. We've never lost at home to Penn State since they joined the conference, and I want JoeGrandpa to go out 0-fer in The Shoe...another non-option. Can't afford to lose to Ohio or Troy, so they're out. I don't ever want to lose to Northwestern again...they're out. I don't want to let Illinois think they can start another 5-game win streak as they did in the early '90s, so they're out. Out of the remaining games. losing at MSU to Mark Dantonio would be the most tolerable by far. If we lose only one game and it's at Michigan State, with us winning a BCS bowl game, I will be quite happy. |

I voted MSU. The big10 has a terrible rep, so if we need a loss id prefer it come against a team that still makes the conference look good. Beating USC would give us such a huge bump nationally I dont want to waste that opportunity.
After the last two years we need a bowl win, again for conference pride and just to go out strong with no bad taste. Never ok to let scUM win. First thought was Wisky, its at their place, strong team. Wouldnt look to bad nationally, then i remembered how much I hate Wisconsin so no. Purdue is at home and I dont like the idea of them coming our house and getting one. After last year, [censored] illinois those bitches can suck my left nut. State Penn can continue their slide into mediocrity, besides after what im sure are some hard feelings about stealing prior i dont want to give them any excuse to talk smack. Finally MSU can have just one more thing to lord over scUM and help them out recruit RR in their own state then so be it. |

Definitely MSU. No one out of conference. no one we've lost to recently (Wisconsin, Illinois), and definitely not Michigan. The next best team is Michigan State.

For the purpose of this thread...I suppose MSU, besides Dantonio would be the one to figure a way to pull off the upset

USC.
to me that means... We go unbeaten in Big Ten. Win it outright (most likely) We play Rose Bowl and win it. Rose Bowl opponent could be USC. Since we win the Rose Bowl... we have beaten them too. |

Gotta go with Wisconsin. They've been on the brink of getting to that upper echelon for a couple years, and if them beating the Bucks means the Big Ten has another big-time program then I'm all for it. I won't pull the "I have 11 teams" argument, but just playing against better competition would make me happy.

minny or purdue. i really want us to beat USC and i never ever want to loose to wisky or penn state. loosing to any team up north is just dirty. so im going to go with 2 of the teams that would garner "really?" responses from the rest of the world. its early enough in the season to not hurt us and would be dubbed an abberation. we still win the big outright by winning head to head against anyone else with a shot at the crown and get a bcs birth.
