Oh dude, so true.
I saw it on Myth Busters...it doesn't take much to make you fail. This MUST be what happened.

This gets to the point. Fundamentally, this isn't "just" about smoking pot (assuming that was what happened). Aside from your personal opinion on the seriousness of marijuana use, if you don't come down hard when someone repeatedly flouts organizational rules that have been clearly stated, and agreed to on both sides, you send the message that the rules themselves, as well as the people who set the rules and those who choose to follow them, are not things to be respected. No football team, indeed, no competitive organization, can be efficiently run on those grounds.

The fact that some of us resent the endless speculation about this matter should not be interpreted wrongly, especially by newer posters here. We had our time of unrivalled speculation and false allegations during the Clarett era and the ESPiN attack on Ohio State. The rumors bordered on hysteria sometimes and people said things about players that should not have been said.
In this case, Mili first posted this rumor on behalf of Grad21, who was away from his computer. Neither of these posters would post anything on BP unless they were very certain of the veracity of the information. Said differently, I believe whatever they post, without exception, until proven differently.
What is not clear is what kind of drug test these players failed, whether a second test revealed the same outcome, or what the test showed. For instance, did the test results indicate that they might have smoked a joint in the last two weeks or that they had been using something much more seriously? Could they have been at a party and inhaled secondhand smoke for a couple of hours? Is this a Mythbusters poppy seed fiasco?
What is clear is that the players have not been suspended but they are being treated differently. But, they have not been openly charged with breaking team rules and, according to Mili, the spokesperson for Coach Tressel denies the rumor.
That brings me to my point. Why all this speculation and moral comment? If you don't trust the posters that posted this rumor, then you haven't been here very long. If it comes from Grad21 or Mili, you can take it to the bank. Still, endless speculation in a thread soon is accepted as fact, which leads to all kinds of other conclusions and speculation. None of which does these players or the Buckeyes any good.
I think zincfinger got it right. The real issue here is discipline. The problem is, from the content of this thread and public pronouncements, we don't know how severe the rule violation is or in fact much about it at all. So, please keep this in mind before you pronounce on this matter.
And, if you think these players are evil incarnate, take a visit to our Police / Legal Blotter thread. Be thankful we have one of the most mistake-free and cleanest programs in college football off-the-field. I'm betting that Coach Tressel is gonna keep it that way.
