There have been many stories this off-season about the team using the shotgun formation more this year (along with more quick throws).

Evidence that this is real can be seen in the spring-game draft video. On the white-boards both teams were drawn up in shotgun formation.

I feel like the offense will be a clear step up from last year, since we know what Saine can do, Washington's emerging as a deep threat, Pryor could contribute nicely, more experience, Beanie's heisman campaign! haha.

The only thing I can think of on offense is that I'd really like to see a 3rd WR emerge, preferrably a speedster. As good as the Brians are, there's something to be said about the speed of Small. It opens things up.

I think Robiskie's speed is underrated. With the O-Line and RB stable on hand for 2008, I think we're going to see a lot of pro sets and some power/throwback formations, whether its I formation or T formation or something else entirely, such as whatever "the Pony" eventually is demonstrated to be. After 'the Brians', expect to see the third option on passing downs to be a lot of checkdowns to Saine and Mo and a good mix of passes to Ballard. The names of the formations aren't really important, rather it's the fact that the team needs to work Ballard and Saine into the passing game more than the other WRs on the depth chart.

Looking at this years team, there really isn't any reason for them to come out in 3 and 4-WR sets and chuck the ball all over the field. I anticipate JT is going to button it up this year and win the surest way.

We'll see some 3-WR sets this year, but probably not enough to fret not having an established third option.

I think when Pryor is in there it may make some sense to spread it out a bit with 3 or 4 wides. He is a bit underrated as a passer and I think he will be good enough to hurt them if they cheat too many guys up to stop the run.

If he is indeed good enough passing to keep the defense honest, our run game with him, Beanie and maybe Saine all together in the backfield behind a huge, experienced O line will be unstoppable.

New Offensive Schemes - Yesterday, 11:22 PM

When camp starts next week the staff will install some new offense plays that all Buckeye fans aren't familiar with. Look for certain players to line up in various positions and use multiple motion schemes.

The defensive coordinators who have been watching film and searching-for-tendencies are going to very surprised this season!

We'll do it at times with a no-huddle offense, automatic snap counts, and multiple formations. By not giving the defense time to execute changes or prepare stunts against certain of our offensive looks, we'll force them to stay base.

To be effective, we'll have to hustle back to the LOS and call a play even before the ball is put into play. This does not mean we are in a hurry-up mode. Unlike hurry-up or two-minute offenses, at times look for us to use the no-huddle concept throughout the game. But, though we quickly return to the LOS, ready to run a play, we actually take our time initiating the play.

The game tempo is set by our hustle back to the LOS. The defense must respond in kind, as they do not know when we will snap the ball. But they know we are prepared to snap at any time.

This gives us a distinct advantage with substitutions. The defense knows we can substitute, but it is risky for them to follow since they know we can snap the ball while they are substituting.

Look for multiple receiver sets with motion.

Look for TB and TP to be on the field at the same time this season.
