BALTIMORE -- Dominic Clarke won two individual regional titles and ran on a winning relay team, helping Tuscarora's boys place second in the Class 3A West Region Championship meet.

Clarke won the 300-meter dash in 37.45 seconds and won the 500 in 1:11.50. Clarke, Kevin Johnson, Chase Holmes and Fabian Gonzales won the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:41.37.

The Ohio State coaches gathered at 7 a.m. on Wednesday to go over some issues and wait for the letter of intent faxes to start rolling in. Only they weren't coming.

Apparently the fax machine jammed at one point, and no one could figure out how to fix it. So as a few coaches stood scratching their head, Dominic Clarke kept faxing his letter of intent over and over.

By the time the fax machine was fixed, Clarke had committed to Ohio State six times.

A part of this Signing Day Notebook says that Clarke sent Coach Tressel a tape of him beating Lamar "Flash" Thomas, in a 300 yard race in HS.

It's great to see that Clarke, not only was avid about making sure his LOI arrived, 6 times , but also was quite proud (deservedly so) about besting Flash. I love all that we keep hearing about his physicality, that makes for the perfect Nickle back against a passing team, a guy with good cover skills who will bring the wood, glad he'll be donning S&G for his college career.

Tuscarora High School in Frederick, Md., never had a football player earn a scholarship to a Division I school. That changed when Dominic Clarke committed to Ohio State.

Clarke is the No. 19 cornerback in the nation and No. 1 cornerback in Maryland, according to rivals.com, but even he was surprised by OSU's interest.

"He didn't even know OSU noticed him," said Kevin Noon, managing editor of ohiostate.rivals.com. "He's a quiet guy and he takes everything in stride."

OSU was not the only school that noticed him. He received scholarship offers from Stanford, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Navy, Boston College and Maryland. But in June 2008, Clarke decided Columbus was his destination.

Noon said Clarke was a standout when he watched him on film.

"It's very easy to see what the coaching staff saw in him," Noon said. "He has so much raw ability."

As a junior, Clarke recorded 38 tackles and three interceptions. He also rushed for 837 yards and five touchdowns on offense.

Clarke was named MVP at the National Freshman/Sophomore combine in Virginia and was named 2007 Top Sophomore at the Maryland Coaches Association Combine. He runs a 4.4 second 40-yard dash.

At 5 feet, 10 inches and 183 pounds, Clarke fits the mold for a small, fast cornerback.

"He has so much upside and hits with a ton of ferocity," Noon said. "He's a ballhawker and he has great instincts."

In this 5th installment of the 25 part series titled Better Know A Buckeye, I give attention to Dominic Clarke, a cornerback prospect from Frederick, Maryland. Dominic was so enthusiastic about committing to Ohio State that not only was he the first to fax in his LOI, but he also ended up faxing his LOI six times. In doing so, not only has Dominic Clarke earned 24 years of eligibility (30 years if he redshirts a couple times), but he also became first in line for this feature following the winter quarter enrollees (Boren, Homan, Klein, Mewhort). In the following sections, I summarize Clarke?s relatively brief recruitment phase. Clarke went from receiving an offer from Ohio State to committing to Ohio State in 3 weeks transcending May and June of 2008. Afterwards, I discuss what he brings to Ohio State. The way he's built, I wouldn't rule out safety like Kurt Coleman. Probably will start out at CB but after Russell, Gant, and Coleman graduate the need may be bigger at safety.

Did he have previous experience at Safety before? Just wondering why you think he'd make the move. I thought we were pretty deep at the safety position with Jaime Wood, O Johnson, Domicione, Rocco Pentello and Nate Oliver. Not including who we might bring in for 2010, wasn't sure just asking.

I like Ohrian and believe in Jamie but not sure Pentello, Oliver, and Domicone will be much more than special teams players. The way Clarke's built and with the little proven depth we'll have next year, I think it'd be smart to give him a shot.

Based on what? There were reports of him doing very well.
