Great pickup. He does remind me a little of Chris Gamble. Seems like a really quiet, shy kid. Seemed really nervous in front of the camera. Gamble kept to himself and was really shy at first too. He turned out to be very assertive on the field and a good one at DB. Corey looks the part as well. Welcome aboard.

It's obviously exciting for all of us, but your post made me take a step back and think about it. It's only a few times in our lives that we're in a position that we're so "excited and nervous." What a great day for him and all they very talented young men who get the opportunity to play at the next level like this. Congrats to all of them. Skills may be God given, but the work they put into making those skills what they are is rewarded on days like this.

My wish for Corey and the rest of the class is that they may all live and play up to thier potential. I hope they take advantage of every day, as young men of the S&G... in the classroom and on the football field. Life is short, enjoy every last second of the experience.

Since the 'nannas are already dancing in one of my earlier posts, I'll just leave it with:

OSU gets commitments from Dublin Scioto safety, Pennsylvania athlete
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Even if space is almost gone in the fast-filling Ohio State 2009 football recruiting class, Bradley McDougald said he was not sensing pressure from Jim Tressel and his coaching staff to jump on board.

Nevertheless, the safety from Dublin Scioto made the decision yesterday. He became the 22nd commitment moments after Corey Brown of Monroeville (Gateway), Pa., took the 21st spot.
Quote:
That's about what Brown said 200 miles away after he announced his decision, picking Ohio State over Pittsburgh and Michigan. He joined a teammate -- Dorian Bell, a blue-chip linebacker who announced his choice a month ago -- in choosing OSU.

"I picked Ohio State really because of everything you can think of," Brown said. "The academics, the coaches, the facilities, the tradition, the great players they've got now, the way they keep playing for championships -- they've got everything you want up there."
Quote:
Brown, whom Kurelic rated as the sixth-best prospect in Pennsylvania, played defensive back but is also the kind of sure-handed receiver that teams desire. He said he could play either one in college, whatever the coaches want. He picked Ohio State over Alabama, West Virginia, Notre Dame and North Carolina.

"He doesn't have blazing speed," Kurelic said, "but he's a great player, which is why so many schools were after him."

Recruiting: Gateway's Brown picks Ohio St.
Buckeyes plan to use him at cornerback
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The scarlet and gray will have a Brown tint next year.

Corey Brown, a senior football player at Gateway High School, announced yesterday afternoon he will attend Ohio State University. Brown, a 6-foot-1, 186-pound receiver-defensive back, was recruited by the Buckeyes to play cornerback. He is ranked among the top 100 players in the country by rivals.com and gives Ohio State its third recruit from the class of 2009.

Dorian Bell, a linebacker and Brown's teammate at Gateway, and Jeannette running back Jordan Hall chose Ohio State in the spring. The Buckeyes also landed Jeannette star quarterback Terrelle Pryor from the class of 2008.

Overall, Ohio State has landed nine recruits from the WPIAL since 2004. The others are Trinity linebacker Andrew Sweat (class of 2008), Center offensive lineman Evan Blankenship (2007), Trinity tight end-offensive lineman Andrew Miller (2006), Beaver tight end Rory Nicol (2004) and Woodland Hills receiver Devon Lyons (2004).

The players from the class of 2009 can't sign a binding letter of intent until February, but can make a verbal commitment at any time.

"When you go up there, you can't come back without saying you don't want to commit," Brown said of Ohio State.

Brown had visited Ohio State a few times and went back to the school for an unofficial visit Thursday. He was accompanied by his mother and sister.

"It's the perfect place," Brown said. "I used to like North Carolina and Michigan until I visited Ohio State a few years ago."

Brown's other top choice was Pitt, but said Penn State, West Virginia, North Carolina and Michigan were his other finalists.

"If you visit Ohio State, there's nothing to dislike about the place," said Gateway coach Terry Smith. "They get 100,000 fans. They played for the national championship three of the last five years. They put kids in the pros."

Gateway receiver commits to Ohio State
By Tricia Lafferty
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Gateway wide receiver Corey Brown made his college decision known almost from the outset of his news conference Monday at Gateway.
Brown and 10 of his family members and close friends were decked in scarlet and gray Ohio State gear even before Brown announced he had chosen the Buckeyes over Michigan, North Carolina, Pitt and West Virginia, among others.

"When I went (to Ohio State), everything was just perfect," said Brown, who donned a red sweater vest like the one often worn by Ohio State coach Jim Tressel. "The coaches were great. The facilities were great. I just really bonded with everybody in my class."

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Brown, who said he will be used primarily as a defensive back and possibly as a wide receiver, called Tressel minutes before the news conference, but he said he had his mind made up Friday when he visited Ohio State for the third time.

"I just fell in love with it," Brown said.
Brown caught 23 passes for 500 yards and recorded five interceptions at defensive back as a junior. He is considered the nation's 73rd-best prospect, according to rivals.com.

"(Saddler) wasn't very happy," Brown said. "Regardless, I wanted to make the decision based on me."

Maybe Corey's started a new tradition - instead of a recruit having 3 or 4 different hats in front of him when announcing, they will now have 3 hats and a sweatervest. Then they can pick up the sweatervest and announce their committment to tOSU.

As Ive said over and over again.. I'm so impressed with this kid at CB.. he's a kid that has gone to camps, 7 on 7 tournaments, combines, etc... and has never been afraid to test his skills against the best.. and he's gotten better and better at the CB position throughout the spring and summer to the point where he's a legit Top100 player by all accounts..

He's just improved so much during this offseason, I cant wait to see what he does at CB this season at Gateway.. I'll put him right up there with our other CB commits when it comes to CB IQ and in-air ball skills..

Yes, there are some questions about his speed.. but right now those seem to be the only questions.. the kid has an innate ability to play cover corner, to read where the WR is going, to stay on the guys hip, and to go up and get the ball at it's highest point..

Congrats Corey and welcome to the family

Awesome video interview with Dorian Bell and Corey Brown. The duo talks about why they committed and what each other's strengths are. Also mention some of their future teammates they've noticed.
