Conference road wins

Starting in October of 2005, tOSU has now won 12 consecutive road games in the Big Ten. That includes 2 wins at Minnesota and at TSUN, and one win at every other location.

It is the only time in the history of the Big Ten that a team has a road win at all ten other conference locations within a 3-year calendar period. Of course, that's only been possible since Penn State made it the Big T(elev)en in 1993.

On a personal note, I'm happy to state that I've attended a tOSU football victory in all 11 Big Ten stadiums since the streak started in 'October '05.

What's most interesting about this to me is that immediately following the loss that preceded the current streak, detractors in print and on the radio were all squawking about how "Jim Tressel" had was 2-3 in his past 5 road games. They were asking if he could win on the road with HIS players, since the NC had come with Cooper's.

Well, this streak has been accomplished entirely with his players. So to Hooley and all the others who are being so negative right now; we've heard your schtick before. And the last time you sounded like this was when this streak was just getting started.

This info was in the game preview last week. I've updated it for the Northwestern win. And I've noticed that the tOSU press release this week for the first time contains the 17-game mark as the conference record. So that tidbit will be frequently seen in all of the game previews from now on, but it showed up first in the BP game previews.

The Buckeyes have a current streak of 14 consecutive Big Ten road victories, which is the second highest mark in league history. The last road loss in conference play was the rainy 17-10 decision at Happy Valley back in 2005. And if the Buckeyes are able to win at Illinois this year; and then get wins at Indiana and Purdue next year, they'll have a chance to break the record in the revenge game at Penn State which will take place in November, 2009.

17 - 1988-92, it ended with the 13-13 game which was, according to E. Gordon Gee, the "greatest victory"

COLUMBUS -- Ohio State has been beating conference opponents on the road for three years. Now everyone else is doing it, too. For the first time since 1999, Big Ten teams have a chance to produce a winning road record in conference games, which can be either a good thing or a bad thing, depending how you look at it. So far, teams are 17-17 on the road this season, after going 17-27 on the road a year ago.
The Buckeyes, who visit Illinois on Saturday in their final road game of the season, have won 14 straight Big Ten road games dating back to their loss at Penn State on Oct. 8, 2005. That's the second-longest conference road win streak in Big Ten history, trailing only Michigan's 17-game streak from 1988-92.
"We talk a lot about the difficulty of winning on the road and that it does take maybe a little bit more focus because you don't necessarily have that energy that the home crowd brings," OSU coach Jim Tressel said Tuesday. "It's going to take a little bit better performance, and it will take that this week."
If Ohio State keeps winning, the Buckeyes would tie the conference record next year against Purdue then could beat it with a win at Penn State on Nov. 7, 2009
