I guess I might be one of the few people that think he has the potential, physical skills,height/weight,and pedigree, to become at least a late first rounder. Coaches are well aware of the Ohio State reputation for producing quality d-backs, and if he gets his stuff together and becomes a leader, he can develop into a player on the same level as jenkins is right now.I mean, we arent talking about a guy who is 5'8 170 who runs a 4.6, this guy will be very attractive to scouts

I think quite a few guys have said that over the years and have still departed and not just only in football.

What he has said in the past and what was in his heart back in August don't mean much when you've got his talent, twelve brothers and sisters, and parents, and an NFL GM offering you a minimum of $50M now ($25M guaranteed). Certainly, the injuries probably weigh heavily on him and would lean him to declaring and getting the hell out of dodge while there's still enough tread on the tires to get paid. Everybody around him, including Tressel, is going to tell him to go and get his payday, and they'd be giving him the right advice. He can always come back in the off-seasons, or after his NFL career is over, and finish his degree. The big unknown, for me, is how much being a Buckeye means. Does he follow the example of this years' seniors and return because he values the college experience so much, wants to be a team captain, and wants that Heisman? Tough call. I am 99.9% certain he goes, and hope he does before he gets seriously hurt and loses that shot. But that 0.1% of me selfishly hopes he stays for one more year, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he did it. I have a suspicion that he might just be one of those guys that's wired for college. Maybe being a Heisman winner is more important to him than being a Top-5 NFL pick? |

Just five days ago the top two Heisman candidates were Crabtree and Harrell. One bad outing and poof, there goes the halfback. A bad outing against TAM, or getting shut out of the Big 12 conference champiohship could take out McCoy. John Parker Wilson could get eaten alive by the Florida defense and we'd be back to Tebow. It's politics and "what have you done for me lately?" in the Heisman hunt.
If Beanie were to stay he would be coming back to: 1. a young line. 2. a team that became "Pryor's team" by the end of the Wisconsin game. 3. a team in a conference that will be pushed down in off season media 4. competing with a teammate for Heisman press. 5. an award of dubious financial value. I'd like to see Beanie stay, but seriously... |

But Malcolm is a rare guy. I don't think Donald has the same skills as Malcolm. MJ is 6'1 210 lbs. He hits like a linebacker and has great cover skills. That's a very rare combination. There's a reason he will likley be the first CB off of the board. |

it would help if he could stay on his feet when catching any pass over 25 yards (he did well vs scUM surprisingly). not sure why, but his feet always seem to get tangled up beneath him and he trips when catching deep passes.

As long as he catches those deep balls, I guess it's tough to complain. |

I agree with you that it is very common for young players to switch their opinions and ideas up in a matter of a few months, but Beanie has always been a devoted Buckeye. I remember when he was recruited a few years ago and he committed early, and never hesitated to go back on his word. His mother spoke out saying something like, "Michigan boys go to Michigan, Ohio boys go to Ohio." He has had a love for the Bucks since he was a teen in high school. Though it could go either way, his heart will always be in Columbus. If we don't see him suited up next year on the OSU sideline, rest assured he will be one of those guys that will be on our side watching the games for the rest of the ages, ala Carter, Eddie, Hawk, Doss, etc. |

To be fair, there's rarely been a perfectly thrown ball for him to hit in stride without over extending or underextending.

Bingo. Everything has to break just the right way for a player to win a Heisman--his team has to perform extremely well (two losses at the most), he has to have a monster season, he has to play his best when the spotlight is the brightest, he has to stay injury-free, he has to hope no one has a better season than him, etc., etc., etc. Players who come back for their senior season to win the Heisman are betting against the odds in my opinion.

Aside from the injury risk there is another reason for Beanie to go:
Rookie salary cap. I don't think teams are going to want to continue paying these exorbitant rookie contracts for guys who MIGHT pan out. I remember Kevin Mawae (OL) talking about Matt Ryan's contract when the Falcons signed him to that huge deal. Now Matt Ryan panned out very nicely for the Falcons. But for every Matt Ryan there are 10 Tim Couchs or Akili Smiths or Courtney Browns (sorry, as a Browns fan I have my fair share of first round busts to reference). I think that we are going to see rookie salary caps in the near future. I'm not sure when the next bargaining agreement is up, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the table the next go round. I think the veteran union membership would be very much in favor of a rookie salary cap. These guys should get while the getting is good. That said I'd love to see Beanie back and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he decided to stay. He seems to LOVE being the man and I don't care a lick about Pryor: if Beanie comes back it's going to be his team. |
