Can anyone in the know comment on Evege's progress and potential to contribute next season. Only time I ever see that dude is on the sidelines playing cheerleader with a hand towel...

If both safeties are back then it will be about replacing our shutdown corner, Malcolm Jenkins. We don't have a guy like him on the roster so someone will have to step up.

If D-Wash is really gone like Mili is suggesting, what does our 2-deep at CB look like next season? CB is easily going to be the weakest spot on this team next season. Who starts opposite Chekwa? Amos? Howard? Could Evege break in? Is it likely, especially given the number and quality of true freshmen we're bringing in at the position, that we see ample playing time from a frosh or two? Brown, for instance? I really like the potential for the DL next season, the safety position is obviously solid with Russell and Coleman back and Hines emerging, and I don't expect to skip much of a beat even at LB with Homan coming into his own and guys like Sabino, Sweat, Rolle, and Spitler fighting for those other spots. But the CB situation REALLY worries me if we lose D-Wash too.

I don't think we should be reallyworried about Washington's departure. He was good, no doubt, but he wasn't that distinguished on the field. Getting Amos or Howard to step up would be great, but like you mentioned, we have quite a few FR waiting in the wings. Worst case scenario, move Coleman to corner and have Hines take his spot at safety.

I'll tell ya, I think D-Wash is a player. Chekwa did a nice job filling in this season, but if it weren't for his head, D-Wash could be the next great corner at tOSU. I thought the contrast was evident in the Texas game. Even though he was apparently fighting through injuries, he seemed to hold his own out there while Chekwa was getting picked on. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly comfortable with Chekwa at one corner, but I'm real worried about our overall depth at CB if D-Wash goes.

Welp, with Dwash gone, who do we see at the other corner? Andre Amos? Or do we see perhaps Corey Brown succeed? I'll also mention Devon Torrence, he's a hell of an athlete. We need someone to emerge as a shutdown corner. There was one thing I wasn't too worried about and it was our secondary this year.

Overall I think we have the right amount of talent at that positin just need it to emerge sooner rather than later.

Scout has him listed at 5'10 168, but rivals has him listed at 183. Seems like he has great pursuit and a great motor. His ability to go up and get the ball is impressive and he's quick out of his back petal. Only real knock some may have on him is his size. He does have a tendency to go for the big hit and not wrap up, but hey who doesn't do that in high school Speed wont be an issue with a 4.41 forty. He's definitely a contender. Impressive kid, especially in the first return in this video. Literally burns everybody.

Travis Howard will start over any including Amos. Amos will get time if he's healthy. And there is always the possibility of the fresh phenom Brown getting some time. But, Howard will be the guy. He's 6 ft 1 180+ and has skills!

It wouldn't surprise me if a freshman steps up at some point in the 2009 season a la Malcolm Jenkins 4 years ago. Brown, Barnett, Clarke, Green = solid crop of young guys tearing it up.

I was wondering the same thing about Evege. If I remember correctly, he enrolled early, so 2009 should be his 3rd spring in the program. He had great measurables coming in and good hips. Have any of the folks with better insight on the team heard anything about his progress?

Well, we've seen Torrance and Amos on the field in a Buckeye uni, but not Evege, Howard, Clarke, or the other incoming frosh. Makes it kind of hard to argue one vs the others.

From what I've seen since he's come back from the knee, Amos has definitely lost a step.
Torrance has the agility and speed to cover, but I'm not sold on his tackling skills.
Can Greene or Brown come in and contribute? Brown probably can, if needed.
Will Barnett play safety in college? I think both he and Wood are good enough and tackle good enough to contribute as frosh.
Does Nate Oliver get a chance to see the field this year - maybe passing up Gant?

Would appreciate an evaluation from anyone "in the know" regarding the '08 guys that we really haven't seen yet.

Personally I think the loss of Washington is pretty big. He could have come back and maybe ascended to 1st or 2nd round next year. He is a player for sure. The advice some of these kids get is bizarre.

I think the lineup will be:

CB Travis Howard
CB Chekwa
S Russell
S Coleman
NB Hines

I think Amos will get the chance, but there has been lots of chatter about Howard.

We shall see!
