1) You're quoting Bucknuts threads. Take those for what they're worth. If you want to know how a rabid 19-25 year feel then feel free to quote Bucknuts as how "most" Ohio State fans feel about the USC game. 2) Ohio State has played against a highly touted freshman QB before with most of his team from the previous year returning and he got soundly spanked in front of his home crowd. 3) What the hell does last years sack count have to do with this year? According to most USC fans USC hasn't lost any starters from last year because the starters this year were "starters" last year anyway even though the real "starters" were drafted into the NFL. Apparently USC had 36 "starters" last year because again according to USC posters on your forums 8 "starters" are back on defense. |

Usc has no lost no starters on the OL so wouldn't saying how long it took OSU to get a sack last year be relevant went essentialy the same units are facing each other again?
USC has 8 previous starters who are expected to start this year, if you were to compare starters returning from the rose bowl, USC returns 4 starters, 1 DL and 3 DB's. Bucknuts is no different than any other fansite no? has its good and bad. |

Because USC is starting a true freshman who has proven absolutely nothing so far on the college level. Sure he was highly touted out of high school, but I seem to remember another highly talented QB out of California who the media seemed to love : Jimmy Clausen. You can make an excuse an say that he started for ND, but just because a QB has talent around him doesnt necessarily mean he can make the right decisions to utilize that talent. So until Barkley steps out on the field and proves something in a game, OSU fans have the right to be confident. |

Last year's performance by the Buckeyes was all around Ohio State's worst performance of the year and it isn't even close. If USC is gauging Ohio State by that game then they run an extremely dangerous risk of severely underestimating the Buckeyes. It would be like Oregon State fans being all confident against you guys this year just because they beat you guys up last year when it was USC's worst performance of the year. BTW, did you know that USC only managed one sack of the Oregon State Beavers last year? How much confidence should that give them this year?

You're starting a true freshman QB that has been talked about as the next great thing but isn't "Quite ready" [See Taylor Mays podcast I linked a few pages back], your best D lineman is out of this game, your starting safety is ineligible, and lets not forget the most important thing: this starting frosh QB you have is playing in OUR house at NIGHT. The obvious comparison to this game would be Texas 06 for many Buckeye fans. Two top teams meeting, albeit in Texas, one with a frosh QB. We only sacked Colt ONE time that night, but if you watch this video: you will see that we hit the [censored] out of that kid. Expect a similar treatment for Matt Barkley, maybe worse given the time and place of this matchup. |

Wilson was either starting or splitting time with gibson, who got a lot better as his first year progressed as a starter. Williams was barely playing at all early in the year, and certainly wasn't number two. They were not using 3-4 sets like now... And last year's linebackers weren't the best blitzers. Sabino coming off the edge outside worthington or heyward as 3-4 ends is a whole different ballgame. Quote:

jwinslow, I have missed your piercing witty posts. It's been too long an off-season!
![]() I hope the game brings us some quality classy USC fan posters, not a deluge of trolls. Oh, and I hope and pray we give USC the same treatment we gave the Skunks from Up North last November. ![]() |

USCStephan,
Buckeye fans are usually always confident. There usually isn't a time when we don't think we have enough talent to win any game. With that being said this team has been borderline cursed in the big games lately. Buckeye fans know it's going to end soon it has to. USC has a true freshman coming into the 'shoe I don't know the stats but I'm sure the record for true freshman QB's in the 'shoe isn't pretty. I wouldn't say we believe the game is going to be easy or that we are going to win. The Buckeyes showed everyone something in the Fiesta Bowl, while we didn't win that game we could of and probably should have beaten a team that had a pretty good claim to be in the national championship. I think Ohio State fans including myself are excited at the fact at kicking the [censored] out of USC espicially after last year. I can't wait let me say it again for emphasis I can't wait until USC comes to the 'shoe and see's some real Big 10 football. ![]() |

Using internet message board guys as a gauge of how a fan base feels makes no sense whatsoever. People on message boards are not a representative sample of ANY group; much less football fans. The vast majority of Ohio State fans have no freakin' clue who Barkley and Corp are, and they won't care until 8pm on the 12th of September. Jwins' already covered the history with Bucknuts as well as it needs to be covered; which is to say that he understated it. Using links to Bucknuts/Scout as evidence of what "Ohio State fans" think is very weak sauce around here. And what do you care if Buckeye fans are confident? I used to live in Orange County. I know damn well that it would be difficult to find an SC fan that knew a Buckeye's name apart from Pryor. And I know that they are all confident that the game will be just like last year. I really don't give a rip. But then, I'm not crawling all over your message boards either. To each his own I guess. |

OF course a fanbase would be more confident with a team starting a true freshman QB on the road in a hostile enviorments against a Top 10 team. Is this a trick question? I think Barkley is going to be your best QB yet when it is all said and done, but I can see why Buckeyes have higher confidence |

I'm quite certain that this years game will be dramatically different from last as both teams have changed significantly. |
