No way Brewster is not a captain next season....

Cordle might be the next guy, although I really don't know about his temperment that well.

Ballard stirred up some controversy with the duel QB comments. Whether that's an issue or not, I don't think the TE position commands enough attention to name a captain at that position.

The WRs and RBs are too young.

Don't see a Michigan transfer named the captain prior to taking any snaps at Ohio State.

Pryor is a good kid but he's not secure enough to lead at this point.

That might leave Brewster and Cordle by default.

On defense I got Wilson and Coleman.

i believe your thinking of nicol. i don't recall hearing ballard say anything about the qb situation. could be wrong, but i don't recall hearing anything about it.

the talk about pryor not being ready to lead might not be entirely accurate. from what little i have seen he's been very vocal on the sidelines. he seems to have no problem talking it up to seniors on the defense let alone the offense. he was also one of the first to track down injured players coming off the field to give them words of encouragement. while he may not be "ready" to be the leader. if anyone is going to be the first soph to be a team captain under jt at tOSU, my money would be on pryor. nothing against brewster, he may be doing the same as far as i know. i just haven't seen it. with beanie gone, this is pryor's team.

It was Ballard who had the [censored] heads in the Columbus media take a couple of lines, in a pretty lengthy interview, way out of context and try to spread discontent amongst the team in order to get a headline.

I don't remember where the link to the entire interview is located, but it was Ballard that was being interviewed. However, I don't believe that it will be an issue whatsoever, considering that the players and coaches will have seen the entire interview by now.

This is why I just cannot see Ballard being a captain, nothing against him, but I mean if Hartsock wasn't a captain then I just don't see Jake being one. However, then again Hartsock also had to compete with Krenzel and Jenkins in '03 so maybe my whole comparison is way out of whack and completely irrelevant...

Gee, what did he do as a sophomore that proved worthy of being picked as a captain? Let's see: Won the 2006 Nagurski Award as the nation's best defensive player...finalist for the Butkus and Bednarik awards as a true sophomore...first-team All-Big Ten...Walter Camp and FWAA All-America.

Now, aside from playing solid football for true freshman for most of the season, what did Pryor and Brewster do to even remotely deserve mention as captains as true sophomores? Uh, yeah.

My 20-to-1 offer still stands to those who have already picked Pryor and/or Brewster as captains...

Cordle and Ballard are valuable players, but to name them captains just because they are seniors is silly. Captains need to be character guys and they need to command respect. If mannerism of your captain or his position does not command this kind of respect, then you'll end up with big leadership issues. Mark Brewster down.

If your measuring the worthiness of being a captain based off of awards and all-american titles, then I gotta say what has Cordle or Ballard done so far in their three seasons to really merit being a captain under these standards?

I understand going with the seniors, but I don't think its so outlandish to think that Pryor could be a captain next year given the circumstances of the depleted leadership on that side of the ball, and the fact that his position commands great leadership to begin with.

I beleive we might have 2 caps from the D line. Wilson (health issues matter or not?) and either Worthington or Heyward. This D line has been jelling together for quiet some time and i expect a lot out of them in this D loosing a lot of caps and starters. Both Heyward and Worthington seemed to be the best tackles in the end of the season.

Now, aside from playing solid football for true freshman for most of the season, what did Pryor and Brewster do to even remotely deserve mention as captains as true sophomores? Uh, yeah.
winning the heisman doesn't make one more capable of being a leader and/or team captain in my book.

the things that stick out to me and make it likely enough for me to take notice are:

took the reigns of a struggling team with an identity crisis and lead them on to a big 10 title and a win over scum. sure you can give the credit to the d/beanie and you would be 100% right for doing so. but the qb always gets the blame and the congratulations whether they deserve it or not.

is an absolute unquestionable competitor. he has the "it" factor. meaning he's going to give 100% every play.

[censored]s up aggressive. every mistake he has made he has done looking to make something happen. you never see him attempt to avoid contact or shy away from a challenge.

willing to put his body on the line for the team. throwing blocks 15 yrs down field and being willing to play wide receiver certainly raised some eyebrows.

when a lineman makes a mistake pryor has his hand on his face mask. the linemen's eligibility doesn't matter. not sure many other true freshman could pull that off.

wr drops a pass, pryor immediately goes over and talks to him about it.

pass goes to the wrong place he immediately points to himself or looks for an explanation. you can see he is still learning, but you can also see he is absolutely committed to getting it right.

is in the d's ear. ive seen many instances where he has sought out lil animal or freeman before the d took the field. true freshman having words with one of the best players in the nation and the leader on d before he takes the field? kids got a pair, thats for damn sure.

when not on the field always seeks out the injured player(s) as they come off the field. always puts his hand on them and always says something.

when not on the field you regularly see him in front on the sideline cheering on the team. his head is always in the game and always focused.

My 20-to-1 offer still stands to those who have already picked Pryor and/or Brewster as captains...
if you go back and look you'll note i didn't pick pryor to be team captain. im simply noting that tressel has surprised me in the past and the kid certainly has alot, though not all, the characteristics you look for in a team captain. in fact, the biggest thing i think that will limit his chances isn't specifically his age/class. its the fact that he hasn't been senatorized with the media yet. if he starts to sound like troy smith behind the microphone before the captains are named... look out seniors.

thought his name was mike?

bad jokes aside, i am curious what people have seen from brewster that makes them think he has a legit shot at team captain for 09. not saying he doesn't, i just haven't seen it.

Captains aren't picked on awards or accolades, they are picked on leadership.
