2009 Big 33 Game

I didn't get to watch the game, but how did Nicely look for Team Ohio?

Romel Dismuke made a couple solid open-field tackles, including a QB sack on PA's shifty QB going to PSU...Dismuke is going to be good.

Dismuke is gonna be a stud at Cincy. I am glad Michigan or another B10 team did not snag him...my goodness.

Joplin and Hyde are gonn abe very solid college players. Hyde will be a DB that CAN catch the ball at Iowa...they got a good one.

Holloman will be a special teams stud. He needs to add some weight but he is lightning quick.

Boucher is gonna be very good in college. He has athletic ability to go with his accuracy.

Ohio should have beat PA soundly. The Ohio DL was very very good against the pass. Their run stopping was so so.

Linsley and Newsome were the best Ohio players on defense. Fields did pretty good. He had a couple nice grabs. Bellamy had a fumble recovery on the 1 yard line.

Those bashing Hall need to realize he was playing tackle and should play guard in college...IMO he is not a tackle.

Another thing to realize is that this is the first time alot of these guys played against elite talent all over the field. The QB's and skill players are used to breaking tackles and running to the outside because of their athletic ability. The level of competition in this game was eye opening for some oif these players...it was noticeable.

The player of the game for me was Dismuke...WOW...he was everywhere.

Yeah, there's quite a lot of motivation for grown men to put the screws to high school kids playing an exhibition game in June. Then, of course, there's the millions of dollars wagered on the outcome.

There is no point on looking at the reasons behind it. Neither you nor I can comment on why someone would do it IF they were purposely doing it. But the OHSFCA has had problems with the officiating in the past. Now, the talent level has been on the PA side for years, but there is no denying the ridiculous calls in this particular game. Micah Hyde was flat out tackled downfield when he was attempting to get a ball, and PA used zone coverage on a number of occasions. There is no way someone can definitively say they were purposefully factoring PA as they could have just been bad refs period, or they did not really care as it is just high school All-Star game.

Is it ultimately a big deal? No, but to deny what happened is pretty ridiculous in itself. PA benefited from a number of suspect calls right when the game seemed to be getting away from them.

The player of the game for me was Dismuke...WOW...he was everywhere.

Dismuke was very good, but his height disadvantage was evident when they had a jump ball to one of the taller wide receivers. If he was four inches taller, Dismuke would have been recruited by everyone in the country. Cincy got a great player there.

Who's bashing Hall?

Not sure anyone can judge him on an all-star game when he clearly didn't look ready for it physically. He did much better in the Army game when he was still in game condition. I think he'll be a great RT if he works hard.

He did alright but the PA defense was getting pressure on him. Boucher was much better at avoiding it.

I actually saw Nicely and his mom today. Seems like he injured his ankle in the first quarter of the game when he got it rolled up dropping back. Looked like he would be okay but was definitely limping around on it.

Talk of Pa. officiating. I distinctly saw Drake cross the line of scrimmage and complete a big pass. (no call) The first quarter was so bad I was shocked when the officials finally called a Pa player for punching an Ohio player. Before that Ohio had been charged with I believe 3-4 penalties. Pa none. And Fellows second offside was a joke even the announcers thought as much.

didn't actually watch the game, but heard that Fitzgerald Touissaint had 2 TD's on only 5 touches (4 runs, 1 catch). Anybody who watched the game, how did he look?

We honestly didn't get a chance to judge him.

He had one nice TD run. It was a stretch play from the 3 yard line. He sauntered outside and then sliced between the traffic from about 6 yards out for the score. Showed nice vision and explosion on the play.

He ran into a brick wall on most handoffs.

His long TD catch was simply abysmal coverage. He snuck out of the backfield to the far sideline, caught it without a defender within 20 yards. He sprinted down the sideline as a defender chased him down with an angle. Fitz put on the brakes and cut back inside with a nice move, and was untouched for the remaining 15 yards. As you can see in the foreground, the defense wasn't the greatest, as #7 should have been in position after the juke, but instead ran himself 20 yards out of the play and couldn't recover in time.

The below clip only captures about half of the play. I'm not sure what happened to the other 8 defenders, but they never seemed to chase the play. Fitz caught the ball relatively near the LOS and ran about 15-20 yards before he comes into clear view in the below clip.
