About to fill a spot ? Tressel wouldn’t say last night, but he might be close to filling one of the two vacancies on his offensive staff with Darrell Hazell, the assistant head coach and receivers coach at Rutgers. Hazell, 39, a 1986 graduate of Muskingum College, has coached several places in the last 18 years, including Western Michigan, Army and West Virginia. Reached by telephone yesterday at Rutgers, Hazell reserved comment. He had been seen in Columbus, where he met with Tressel the day before. |

Hazell and Tucker and the NFL?
I think this was one of the best additions for an assistant coach in awhile. Last year we were in the bottum 10 teams in the return game. This year we are in the top 17 teams in the return games. A major turnaround thats obviously coaching.

He will pay huge dividends on the east coast recruiting. I think Worthington and Jenkins are just a start. He is a very personable coach...
I like what he has done with the return game and WR's seem to be doing well with blocking this season.. |

I love what Hazel has done here!! Last year you could promise that we'd ONLY get to around the 20-25 this year we're break'n them to the 35-40 sometimes to Midfield. I'm very impressed with what he's doing! Heck, also I think he coaches recievers as well. I think our Recievers is our Strenght on offense as of right now. Maybe not with talent right now, but what they've shown me has made me think good things about them. Ginn, Holmes, Hall, Gonzo, and Also Lyons is coming in and playing real well.! I like what this coach has done he's a great coach and sometime we should see if we can promote this guy.

I agree he has done a great job getting the return games back to where they should be. Also have nothing but good vibes on his recruiting impact.
My one concern is why we still cant cover kicks that well. With all the S,CB,LB types we have and a good coach like Hazell, you would think we could do a better job. Oh well, add it to the list of head scratchers in 2004. |

He is a great person. Right now he is very tentative about coaching and recruiting as he is feeling his way around a little, as fully expected.
He had FL responsibilites for Rutgers, but in truth, the head coach did the heavy lifting as he came from FL. |
