OSU Football Overall Look
First I just want to say, mods if this post should go somewhere go ahead and put it somewhere...but I didn't feel, it was an offense post, purdue game post, defense, post, but overall where is this program...
So let me start...
Anyone that says Jim Tressell should go is out of their mind. The guy has brought great things to this program. He has brought us a NC, multiple big ten championships, and a great record against Michigan.
Anyone that says we need an OC, I open my ear to, becuast I think we would all like to see the offense be able to do more, at this point I don't care what the problems are, but since Jim has been here we really haven't performed on offense as well as most fans would like us to. Yes we have peformed at a level which has allowed us to win most games we have played in, but why not put those game away on offense than letting them hang around and pinning it on the defense.
So lets looks overall. We can play against anyone in the country. Bring Florida, Alabama, Texas, USC and I think we have the overall ability to play with any of them, and I could make a case why we can play with them. But we wouldn't be favored in any of them.
We have kinda been lead to believe we were there, by getting there in 2006 with a very good team, that got hit in the mouth and wasn't quite ready for it and then a team in 07 that backed in, and had every chace to win that game.
The big ten is down, we are down, i say about Boise if you put them in the SEC they would lose 3 games, well if you put us in the SEC we would lose 3 or so games...Think if we had to go against Florida, LSU, Bama, Georgia, UT, Ole Miss, Arkansas...We have been kinda lucky to play against the big ten...but think about those strong Miami teams, that many said the same thing about when they were playing agaisnt Big East teams, but they were at least kicking their ass...
I truly believe JT is trying to evolve he has stepped up the recruiting...We are not just brining in top guys from Ohio, but PA, FL, IN, MI, etc...He is also trying to give the offense over to Hazell...
But we are in a transistion period. the big ten is trying to come back, we are very young this year...
I do belive that alot of it relies on Pryor's development...I thought he looked great in the Spring game, he has shown many moments in his play here, he has a good arm, when he steps into throws he can make plays, he can surely make plays with his legs, but the mental part of the game is lacking, his ability to make smart plays, read a defense, and be the leader is not quite there yet.
If we land another big class this year, cotinue to open up the offense a little bit we can be right there, and on top, and honeslty it is hard to swallow a lose, but a top 5 finish in the regular season and a bowl lose would not be a good thing for us this season...Now lets regroup, much like we did after losing to Iowa a couple years ago, finish the season out strong, the Rose is still there if we finish out, win a bowl game and go into next season, with a tested team that is ready to take it to the next level.
