In College he was a great form tackler..but your probably right..his headhunting skills really exploded with the Raiders. I remember him hitting the great Brown's QB Mike Phipps(at Purdue) with a perfect form tackle that lifted him off the ground.

I was a Raider fan as a kid towards the end of his career. He was never a dirty player. If he was, Rozelle would have run him out of the league. He was just simply the most vicious (clean) hitter the game has ever seen. Some of the [Mark May] he threw down was so off the charts that people just naturally had to assume that something was dirty about it.

Now, Skip Atkinson......Dr. Death was a whole other story.

Thanks for the input. On a slightly related point, how would you rate OSU's linebackers in 1979? I believe they used a 3-4 and the startes in that formation were:

OLB - Ferguson
OLB - Laughlin
ILB - Marek
ILB - Washington

Curious, are you writing a thesis on the 1979 team? Every post you've made have been about the 1979 team and comparisons.

I know that I played basketball with Marcus Marek at South Rec and he absolutely destroyed me with a screen in one game.

I'm creating 98 and 79 teams for a computer strategy game and I need ratings for the defense. It might be easier if I post the preliminary rating and see if anyone thinks I've over/under-rated anyone.
