Sour grapes from espn

As much as I hate to admit it, I did look quickly at espn's website this morning. Granted, there was other pretty big news from yesterday, but I found it interesting that there was absolutely no mention- not even a headline link to the story- of our win over the weasels.

One of the biggest rival games in all of sports, in which we kicked #7 michigan's ass, and it gets no coverage on the front page. What a bunch of assholes.

Well, screw 'em. We won. They can't take that from us.

Its even mentioned in an "oh, by the way" fashion on Sportscenter. ESPN has no class.

Did you see the Big Ten commissioner's comments about them? They will have gotten the message loud and clear. If we continue to boycott and if the boycott grows, it will be no time at all until they suffer serious repercussions.

I actually have dropped them and could care less what they have to say about anything. Who cares? It's not objective reporting. It is reporting made to extract maximum viewership without any consideration for the unfair damage done to others.

I like the way Andy Geiger is handling this. I feel in my bones that all of the charges will be found to be without any basis.

One of the joys is that I used to hit their site about twice a day. I really like the SI, Sportsline and Fox sites now. Better and more objective reporting.

ESPN isn't even on my radar anymore. Maybe we can get Herbie a job with a real network, eh?

I didn't see what was said but I recall an SI.com article declaring Jim Delany the #1 most powerful person in College Football.

Agree with the above, ESPN will take a serious hit for this. Fact checking , having multiple sources, simply having the ability to PROVE a story is the basis of good journalism. The day may come very soon that sportsfans trust them as much as Leon in the Budweiser commercials. Herby and Corso could well be exposed as two talking heads

Yup.. the whole front page was about us yesterday during and after the game... but it quickly dissapeared.

Big Ten commissioner criticizes ESPN for Clarett reports

Columbus- Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany joined with Ohio State officials Saturday in criticizing ESPN's reporting of former OSU running back Maurice Clarett's allegations against the football program.

"The Clarett kid has got issues," Delany said from his seat in the Ohio Stadium suite of OSU Athletic Director Andy Geiger. "Anyone who has watched the story unfold realizes there are issues. Maybe Ohio State has issues, too. That's going to be determined by the NCAA."

<SCRIPT ********************></SCRIPT><NOSCRIPT></NOSCRIPT>Delany volunteered to speak with reporters before the OSU-Michigan game to address ESPN publishing and airing Clarett's charges that he received both cash from boosters and other improper benefits and that the school assisted him in committing academic fraud.

Delany said those matters were investigated thoroughly by the NCAA last summer and that OSU was cleared of wrongdoing.

"I'm looking for the corroboration," Delany said. "I'm looking for a document. I'm looking for something other than a regurgitation of broad statements that were made, discredited and then remade.

" . . . Having said all that, the NCAA may conclude that Maurice Clarett is a great witness with lots of integrity and his facts can be backed up. If that's the case, then Ohio State has issues."

Delany made clear he doubts that will happen.

"I've been watching and working with Andy Geiger for a quarter-century," Delany said. "Some of the comments the young man has made with reference to Geiger don't pass the smell test, as far as I'm concerned.

"Geiger, if anything, is a builder, an honorable guy. I've seen him in many tough circumstances and never once have I seen him finesse a tough situation related to an NCAA violation.

"It's 'investigation, self-disclosure, turn yourselves in and deal with the reality.' For [Clarett] to imply that something other than that is going on in this case doesn't make sense."

Delany is a former NCAA investigator.

"At the end of the day, the NCAA is going to be the determinant whether NCAA violations occurred," Delany said. "Not Ohio State. Not Jim Delany and not ESPN.

" . . . You can make a case without Maurice Clarett, if there's something wrong. But you can't make a case on Maurice Clarett alone, because I think he's a discredited witness. . . I do think it's fair to raise questions about unvetted, uncorroborated allegations made by a person who has an agenda."

and collectively espn said, "awwww fawk..."thank yee sir . i seriously doubt espn has the brass ones to push this much further. though it doesn't really matter, the season is over.

if nothing is found by the ncaa tOSU should sue espn for defamation of character. i realize they are protected by freedom of speech n all... but there has to be a way of holding them legally responsible for their words.

I HATE espn and the crap they pulled last week, but keep something in mind. If any of you were at the game listening to Dan Patrick beforehand (or were just listening to 1460), he made some very good points.

ESPN has a lot of people working for them. I think they were dispicable in waht they did with the clarett situation, but I think that was to earn ratings and nothign else. I doubt they have a personal hatred towards OSU. They should be hated for a long time for what they did, but don't carry over the retarded crap by Friend/his boss and apply it to EVERY OTHER aspect of ESPN.

the OSU-scUM game was THE headline on the college football section for quite some time, I'm pretty sure. I got back like 6 hours after the game and it was still the main pic. Oh and that is false to say its not there right now (it's a smaller article but still there):

So its not like they didn't feature it, and its also not true that its no longer a headline. Plus, in terms of ratings, starting tomorrow its not really a big news story anymore. scUM is going to the rose bowl, but this loss is merely something to include inside of a BCS-woes article. I love THE GAME, but from a national perspective the best team in this situation is 8-2 as opposed to all of the drama of the 3 unbeatens, the Utah stuff, the possibility of a 2nd non-BCS conference team in the BCS, etc.

And OSU did lose 3 games in a ROW. If they had lost two out of the 4 that they lost, it would have received a lot more coverage.
