Killernut is an Idiot
Well, I have learned a lesson. A lesson that I knew but for some reason forgot. I re-learned why this rivialry is so special and why words like no way, never, and "asses kicked" should never be used before this game. I know many of you will take this opportunity to continue to trash me, and that is fine, I will never be happier that I am getting trashed for believing something I wanted to happen so bad was impossible. This was a legendary game. I know no one rooted harder for this to happen, I am certain that their were few who were as surprised and happy as me. I have been smiling since the game ended like I lost my virginity last night. There is something special about this game, about the horseshoe, about the players that wear both sets of uniforms. Records DO mean nothing, Matchups are useless because on this Saturday players can emerge into something great, even if they had been less than stellar in the past.
The first thing I must say is I thought there was no way Troy Smith was capable of having the type of game he had. He was locked on target all game long it seemed he never made a mistake, never even made a poor judgement that I can remember. Running the ball, throwning the ball, moving in the pocket to by more time. He reminded me of clips I have seen of Rex Kern today. I don't believe I have ever seen a better performance by a Quarterback in the Ohio State-scUM game. He played out of his mind and if that is the type of perfomance that we can expect from here on out, there is absolutely no quarterback contriversy.
I never thought that we would run the ball on then like we did. I was in shock when I saw some of those holes open up. Dionte Johnson just destroyed some Michgan LB on an ISO play coming out of the endzone with Brandon Joe right behind. T.J Downing, who I don't remember playing in previous games, was killing his man on every play. We could have run behind him on every play, and it would have had a high chance for success. The offensive line did a good enough job pass protecting and when they didn't T. Smith made it work. Brandon Joe played well getting us out of two holes on our goalline.
The crowd was intense, but the fast start quickly bumped it up 3-4 notches, provided by a bomb to Gonzalez? Did anyone call that one? I loved his quote after the game "this is the greatest feeling in the history of the world" indeed it is.
The defense played very impressive, but their are certain players that stand out, as usual Hawk and Carpenter played outstanding games. But players who we expected big things from this year like Fraiser, Kudla, Salley steped their games way up. Youboty, Whitner, and Everett played probably the best games they have played as Buckeyes. Youboty owned Edwards. I don't think he gave up one catch to him all game long. Edwards was pretty well contained all game, with most of his catches coming at the expense of a zone. The one long TD grab he got it looked like Fox should have had Safety help.
Henne wasn't really rattled I don't think, we just beat them because we were the better team on that day.
I have seen this rivalry work against us in most seasons. Usually when we have a chance to ruin a scUM season we don't do it. We did it, and I am very happy for the Seniors, Players and Coaches. Although they still backed their way into the Rose Bowl, our victory has got to make the trip seem less sweet, and they are only Co-Champions.
Thank you 2004 Buckeyes! This is now a Good Season.
