Mili, I don't see why that's a stupid comment. As mentioned above, JT was the AD at YSU and is a great leader; he won't take over in the next 5 years, but if he coaches here another 10 years (and gets another NC or two) he'll be the perfect candidate. More than choosing when he gets to retire from football, it would interesting to see who he'd pick as his successor. This is not the last time we'll hear JT's name connected to the OSU AD position.

Two questions.

What is it about Holbrook that makes you guys think she's so bad? I really mean that, I'm not in Columbus and its pretty clear you guys would toast her in a minute?

How is Archie Griffin doing as head of the Alumni Association? He took over from a real class act in my opinion and things actually appear to be very quiet over there from where I sit.

It's really hard to make a contribution to this thread until I can understand these. Thanks guys!

AKABUCK - that has been the impression Andy has been giving the last few years. That he wants to retire from Ohio State in the near future (2-3 years). I think it would have been sooner if not for the investigation into the basketball & football programs. From what he has said he wants to leave the Athletic Dept on sound footing. With the latest problems, I believe it has been pushed back a little.

I do believe Archie will be the next AD. It appears that he has been groomed for the job. Joining the Alumni Association as President has given him the background leading a large organization.

I did misunderstand what you were saying. I think we agree on this issue, I just didn't get that feel after your first post.

To answer a later question posed by Steve19 about Karen Holbrook-- The general feeling about her on the boards is that she doesn't belong at tOSU. Since she has taken her job, she has done little else but try to destroy the traditions of tOSU. She seems more interested into turning this into an elitist school like Harvard than leaving it a 'mere land-grant school for the masses'. She has hardly hidden her disdain for big-time athletics or anything else, for that matter, that does not fit exactly into her Utopian ideals of university culture.

Moreover, I think many people have the impression (myself included) that Karen A-Hole brook doesn't much care for the traditions of tOSU or its alumni as they pertain to football. She also works closely with Campus Partners to sterilize and destroy student activities and life on and around campus- a drive down High Street today is a sad event compared to even 4 years ago when I was there, which in turn was depressing comparred to 30 yrs ago when my father was there.

She is EXACTLY what the fans did not want in a university president-- an outsider. Consider Cooper as an analogy-- completely qualified for the job, and proficient in many ways, but lacking in a basic and fundamental understanding of where they are and what the expectations and traditions are. She was hand-picked by an equally unqualified outsider in Brit Kirwan-- he who statred us down this course by establishing Campus Partners and setting his sights on 'cleansing' tOSU of its bars and policing student life (quite literally).

The sad part is, as an outsider he was doing nothing more than resume padding; tOSU was just a stepping stone to his dream job and all he needed was to be able to show how great a job he did cleaning up the cess-pools of the biggest college in America. tOSU needs to hire in a homegrown president that will be treating this as a dream job and truely have the interests of the University (and EVERYTHING that implies--- traditions etc) set before his personal goal of building his resume up so he can jump to a more prestigious employ.

I hope my rant helps answer some of your questioning of the animosity towards Karen Holebrook.

Holbrook receives award for changing game-day culture

President Karen A. Holbrook will be honored with the Presidents Leadership Group Award for her efforts in changing the culture surrounding game-day behavior. Ohio First Lady Hope Taft will be among the attendees when Holbrook receives the award at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday (12/9) in the Blackwell Inn, 2110 Tuttle Park Place.

The award ceremony is a part of the CHOICES Implementation Training program, a daylong alcohol prevention program that trains university professionals on how to help college students make low-risk choices when they are drinking. Approximately, 90 people from Ohio State and universities throughout the state will be trained to become facilitators of the program on their respective campuses.

Following disturbances at the 2002 Ohio State – Michigan game in Columbus, Holbrook convened a task force with Mayor Michael B. Coleman that included university and city administrators, students, community leaders and representatives from the media and business. The charge to the task force was to get to the root of the problem while developing game day policies and practices and changes to the neighborhood environment to prevent future disturbances.

Beginning last season, local law enforcement officials have stepped up their enforcement of open-container laws on football Saturdays. Reports of assaults, vandalism and physical and verbal abuse are down significantly.

The Presidents Leadership Group Award is presented by the Center for College Health and Safety, a part of Education Development Center Inc., an internationally known educational research and development organization.
