Sorry Mili, I have got to respectfully disagree with you here. I think White is effective at running his system at OU, as long as everything is running smoothly. I also think he gets a lot of credit his team mates deserve. I hate choklahoma, but they have one hell of an O-line, and their receivers are bad either. I have watched choklahoma play 4 times this year, and I don't remember seeing white get hit once. If someone in the little 12 played some defense ole snaggletooth would start to look very very average. I am not saying he is a horrible college football player, but I am saying he is overhyped, and overrated. I think if you put any mediocre QB on that team you would see very little drop off.

I think this argument/disagreement is pointless. Obviously, White is not very talented, but hung around in a system for twenty years and developed into a good QB. Obviously, the talent around him has a lot to do with it, but you have to give White credit for being able to get the ball in the hands of the Oklahoma playmakers. There are a ton of College QBs at big programs who can't even do that: Stevie B., Stanley Jackson, Chris Rix, Jesse Palmer, etc.

He does have way better numbers than other average QBs who played in that same system with the same talent around him (Nate Hybl and Josh Heupel, to name two).

If you have a longer career as a college athlete than Acie Earl did at Iowa (he was a Hawkeye for about 10 years, right?) then you're bound to pick up something.

Wasn't doggin' Krenzel. Just saying that you can't overrate a winning QB, like Krenzel, Greene, Dorsey, White, Leinhart, etc.
2003 Heisman Look

QB Craig Krenzel, Ohio State – From a Heisman perspective, Krenzel is an awful lot like former Miami quarterback Ken Dorsey. His stats won’t blow you away, but his leadership and career record as a starter should. If the Buckeyes were to go perfect for the second straight year, Krenzel would run his career record to 26-1, a mark that would have to drum up some Heisman chatter.
He needs to…become the focal point of the offense while Maurice Clarett is ineligible. It’s all about the Ws for Krenzel, but he has to beef up his numbers to get Heisman consideration.
The Buckeyes need to
…remain unbeaten. A single loss and Krenzel’s out of the picture.
Pivotal game –
November 22 at Michigan. The Heisman has been won in this game before.

Um, Ohio State was their pre-season # 1. So who else on the team should've gotten the cover? The only other option was a SUSPENDED Maurice Clarett.
I get your point Sloops, but if you think that Krenzel received no hype, why didn't they just post the Ohio State team picture on the front of SI, since they were preseason #1 as a team. If you also remember, they wrote a several page article on Krenzel. I don't know if that would register as hype, but they don't do articles on average, [censored]ty players.

They could have put AJ Hawk on the cover, or Mike Nugent who were preseason all americans, but they put the QB on the cover, which is cool. Did they not put Leinart on the cover this year?

D-phat: "why didn't they just post the Ohio State team picture on the front of SI, since they were preseason #1 as a team?"

They never do that. They usually pick the player that'd sell the most magazines (usually a QB, feature TB, or sometimes a WR) and put his grill on the cover. CK's a good looking guy, had the article written on him in the mag, and was QB on the defending National Champs.

We may have had better players at their respective positions coming into that season (Gamble at DB, Smith at DE, MJ at WR, etc.), but chances are that an Investment Banker on Wall Street who knows nothing about CFB is more likely to know the name of the QB than anyone else on the team.

"If you also remember, they wrote a several page article on Krenzel. I don't know if that would register as hype, but they don't do articles on average, [censored]ty players."

That doesn't count as hype. CK is a nice, human interest story: the youngest kid in an athletic brainy family, looks like Anthony Michael Hall, Molecular Genetics, yadda, yadda .. Lets face it, if we wanted our sons to grow up to be "like someone" someday, CK is as good a choice as any.

And if I remember correctly, the gist of those articles was to match good players with good academics: Jonathan Vilma was also a part of that piece, because he was an All-America LB and an Honors Finance Student. There's NO ONE who can fit that bill more than CK.

"Did they not put Leinart on the cover this year?"

Yup. Along with Skyler Green, Frank Gore, Jason White, and David Greene.
