Don't know the answer, but here's an article

Sorry to not answer the question, but I don't know the answer Still I figured I'd post the article for those who didn't catch it on o-state.com. This is not very informative, but its better than nothing.

Alamo Bowl notebook: Cowboys suspend senior cornerback

Web Posted: 12/23/2004 12:00 AM CST

San Antonio Express-News

Oklahoma State coach Les Miles on Wednesday said that senior cornerback Darrent Williams had been suspended for violation of unspecified team rules within the past two days.

Williams, a preseason All-American candidate, had been expected to play in the MasterCard Alamo Bowl after missing all but one series of the past seven games with a broken arm.

"He violated some team rules and he's not on the trip," Miles said. "We played without him the whole back half of the season. I'd just like to focus on the guys who are here."

Travel woes: The Cowboys cancelled a workout at the Alamodome after their charter flight landed in San Antonio more than three hours later than their expected arrival of 3:45 p.m.

Miles still took his team to the Alamodome for a brief visit. Roughly 25 Texas-based players who were allowed to leave Stillwater earlier in the week were waiting for them.

The Buckeyes, meanwhile, were scheduled to arrive at their hotel at 3:30 p.m., but didn't pull in until shortly after 5 p.m. Coach Jim Tressel was just happy to have arrived at all, however.

"It was pretty snowy when we left," Tressel said. "I heard they closed the airport just after we took off. We were happy to get down here."

QB Smith is missed: Ohio State players expressed remorse that quarterback Troy Smith was not with the team. All-American kicker Mike Nugent was perhaps the most disappointed, having lost his travel companion.

"He sat next to me on every plane trip this season," Nugent said of Smith, who was suspended from the Alamo Bowl on Monday for violating an unspecified team rule. It's kind of different with him gone. He's a great kid, and I hope everything gets well for him."

Cheap entertainment: While waiting for the rest of the Cowboys to arrive, former Galena Park North Shore quarterback Robert Reid unleashed a perfect 40-yard strike into the back of unsuspecting teammate Walter Thomas. Thomas is 6-foot-5 and weighs 340 pounds.

"That's my roommate," Reid said. "He has a paint gun he's always shooting me with so I'm just getting him back."

When told of Reid's feat, Miles wasn't impressed. "You could probably hit that target," he said.

Everyone's watching: With a season that has included allegations by former players of NCAA rules violations, Ohio State players are aware that any mishap during their stay could become national news.

"It's important to stay out of trouble with the pressure on us right now," defensive back Dustin Fox said. "If we do something wrong, it's going to be all over every paper."

Darrent Williams was a pre-season All-American. He's by far Okie State's best DB and propably best defensive player.

I made a thread about this in the Rumor Mill yesterday.

Buckeye Sticker got the t-shirt

I posted this story early this morning in the Game Thread. Funny enough ... none of the big Sports sites (CNN/Si, ESPiN) say word one about it.

I stand corrected (took 'em long enough).

But they juped all over the Troy Smith story. I wonder why.

He's the best backfield defender we have.

I'd say this is a huge blow to the OSU defense, but we haven't had him since the SMU game I believe. So really, we've been playing without him all season.

Hot rumor is... he's getting ready to sign with an agent and focus on NFL drills and wasn't practicing hard, so Miles just cut him loose since his head was obviously not in the right place.

Unlike your loss of Smith, we've been dealing without Williams all season. Our defense sucks, but this news doesn't really change a whole lot for the Cowboys.

I really don't think it is a big deal. We haven't had him basicly all year, so not that big of a deal.

I don't see it as a huge loss in that we hadn't planned on him being there.

I do see it as a huge loss in that the defense needs some holes filled by top talent. If that makes sense.

When I wrote the defensive preview he was one of the major impact players that I listed for Oklahoma St. I think this really takes away from Ok St's defense. I know that they have delt without him most of the season, but he would have been a spark for Ohio State to deal with.

I honestly can say that I look at Oklahoma St's defense and really wonder where the talent is, I'm not saying this in an arrogant manner either.

DW is a playmaker, thats for sure. Anytime he's near the ball, be it on D or on Special Teams, something is going to heppen. Its a lose, but only to a point. He's looking at the pros. He's already been injured once this year and sat out most the season, the last thing he needs right now is another blow to halt his career. It'd be great to have him back, but only if he's playing 100%. I believe Les made the right decision in this matter.
