79 teams have won a Bowl Game since ND's last bowl win
This was one useful bit of info from ESPN. I figured I'd post it and save NDChief the trouble.
79 teams have won a bowl game since Notre Dame's last bowl win at the end of the 1993 season.
Tonight - Oregon State 38, ND 21
They've now lost 7 straight bowl games, the 3rd longest bowl losing streak ever.
Worst Bowl Streaks
8 - S. Carolina, 1945 - 1988
8 - W. Virginia, 1987 - 1998
8 - Alabama (7 losses, 1 tie from 1967 - 1975) surprising since they have record 29 wins
7 - ND, 1994 - 2004
7 - MeatChicken, 1969 - 1979
7 - Arkansas, 1986 - 1999
7 - Colorado, 1972 - 1990
7 - Missouri, 1924 - 1960
7 - Nebraska, 1987-1994 (all in January)
edit - for those wondering 4 losses is tOSU's worst streak (77-80, 89-93)

OHH THANKS BILL!! Funny, but sadly I knew this! The new era begins and if this new coach has anything he seems a little NASTY AND CONFIDENT!
Going to a huge high school wrestling tourny for a few days and yell and scream and get it all out!

We've had some threads concerning if there is ever an appropriate time to be rooting for Michigan, rooting for all Big Ten Teams in bowl games, etc, etc. Many theories have been posted. I'm of the opinion that you root for Michigan when it is for the best interest of the Big 10 conference and thus in the best interest of Ohio State.
Thus I find it very easy to root for Michigan when they play Notre Dame. In fact, I can even find it in my heart to root for USC when they play the Irish. Over the years I've rooted for Miami (Florida), Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas... BYU. I also root for all other Big Ten teams when they play in a bowl game or an out-of-conference game.
But what if Notre Dame entered the Big Ten, would I root for them in a bowl game?
Nahhh, baby, Nahhh.
Alas, I'm to the point of wondering just what the circumstances might be that would cause me to root for Notre Dame. Maybe if they played against Al Queda...

That's 79 different teams, not 79 bowl games that had a winner, right?
Pretty impressive streak Domers...the teams looked completely lost yesterday (as expected I would think)...

Notre Dame is in trouble...
They have NO home recruiting base...They have to rely on national noteriety. Their fine history doesn't resonate with high schoolers who can't even recall the "glory days" of the dome. They can't put out a first round skill position draft pick to save their life. The network coverage that used to be their greatest advantage, now is used against them in broadcasting their dissapointing teams. Even if they could land half of the elite players...how many could live up to their academic qualifications?
The firing of Willingham and their coaching search was flat out emberassing as they were turned down time and time again. Now...yet another blowout bowl loss (ala Oregon State a few years back) is going to erase the memory of an otherwise okay season. This program is at a crossroad and it is going in one of two directions...
1. A good 8-4 or 9-3 team consistently
2. Army and Navy...great tradition, no longer relevant.
The academic requirements will prevent ND from ever being a powerhouse and tradition fades further away with each generation. Their only hope is that Weis can coach lesser talent players and create some new tradition and history...but this last decade is going to stick out in the minds of all college football fans. I don't think Notre Dame can ever again be what it once was...a CONSISTENT elite national power.
I don't like Notre Dame, but I think they are good for college football because of the love/hate factor. I'm not trying to make fun of them, because the very same thing could happen at OSU someday if we become too cocky and assume that we can still be elite with extremely high academic requirements. Luckily we will still have Ohio as a loyal recruiting base, while ND has to compete against all of the Big Ten wolves for the few Indiana football stars.
The program is in a sorry state right now (for their expectations). I'm not trying to flame Chief or anything...This is just how it looks to an outsider.
