I think that Tress is deadly for opponents in Bowl Games.
He has shown he can prepare and get the joib done. Right now I think we could play with anyone ..... However, our mid season lapse stopped that chance..... I am ready for spring to get sprung am looking foreward to next year already. Go Bucks. Michigan Sucks |

This was a year for struggling and learning, in preparation for a NC run in 2005. Those mid-season losses were not such a bad thing if you think of them as opportunities to teach discipline, instill drive and desire, and bring forth team leaders.
Remember fellas, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. |

You are so right, TallIndian! I often wonder if JTressel doesn't mimic Paul Brown (one of his idols), in preparation and details. Probably one reason we Bucks won't see an independent OC soon.
Another element in bowl games: After a multi-week rest, JTressel has his "experienced" team healthy and in game shape, rather than have a physically bruised bunch of troops. We have also been underdogs in all four of JT's bowls...good motivation for a highly talented TEAM. I really mean it this time: I can't wait until next season to start!!!! |

Ditto. After the Cooper years, what a wonderful change for the better!

He continues to impress me with the preparation- physically and mentally of the team when going into tough or critical situations, like scUM and the bowls. In addition, he and the staff do a great job at understanding what needs to be done to win- what the opposing team's strengths are, what they're likely to do, and how we can use what we have to take advantage of it.
Tressel is an excellent head coach. |

While I'm excited for the season next year, I'm looking forward to a long off season.
An off season that is completely devoid of news stories about the Ohio State players. Hopefully the NCAA stuff will clear up and this mess will be behind us. I was relieved when the game was over the other night because the season being over will, hopefully, take some of the heat from the spotlight off of OSU. I've also been wishing ill on other programs so that they might get a taste of what the fans of Ohio State have had to endure for the last two years. |

Most impressive is that he turns controversy around and uses it as a motivational tool better than anyone I can remember. Tressel teams thrive on being doubted and under pressure. Tressel's teams best attributes are emotional/mental stability and preparation. When you win these battles, it's no mistake that this team outperforms others in the clutch.
Luckeyes nothing...Tressel prepares his teams for clutch moments. |

JT teams win the big games
It is amazing how prepared JT can get the Bucks for the big games at the end of the year
under JT the bucks are 3-1 against scUM (underdog in 3 of the 4 games) and 3-1 in bowl games (underdog in all 4) big turnaround from the Cooper days when the bucks were worldbeaters until later november and went 2-10-1 against scUM and didn't fare much better in the bowl games either..... |

Great posts fellas. This brings up a great point, is there a coach in college football who prepares for bowl games as well as Tressel? To add to my point, is there a coach who gets his team to improve as much as Tressel? I think that we are beginning to see why he won so many titles at YSU.

In 1996, Bowden's bowl record at FSU was 14-2-1 after downing ND in the Orange.
Now it's 17-7-1, pending today's Gator Bowl against his old W. Va. team. Bobby's bowl record at W. Virginia was 1-1, splitting two Peach Bowls against N.C. St. FYI, Bear Bryant was 12-10-2 in Bowls for Bama. Woody was 5-6 in Bowls for tOSU. During most of his tenure Big Ten rules only allowed the conference winner to go to a bowl. And a team couldn't go to the Rose Bowl 2 years in a row until 1973. Last edited by BuckeyeBill73; 01-01-2005 at 12:55 PM. |
