Good read from the PD

A swirl of spins flows with OSU wins

Take a look at it. It's a good read.

Here's a good quote from the article.
Quote:
But make no mistake, it is Tressel who's commanding the crew.

"I've heard people say he's not in control of the team," linebacker A.J. Hawk said. "Coach Tressel is more in control of his team than any coach I know. He's so involved in everything we do. He's so worried about our lives and everything we do, not just football.

"I have all the respect in the world for him. I hope he sticks around for a long time. And I'm sure he will."

"The Buckeyes will return nine defensive regulars, losing only defensive end Simon Fraser and cornerback Dustin Fox.

Both were three-year starters, but neither had a landmark senior year, even though Fraser's three tackles earned him defensive MVP at the Alamo Bowl. "

Great article, but I take enormous exception to that statement. How many times did we hear Fox's name mentioned during the year. Barely any. And do you know why? Because he was playing great! At cornerback, you have excellence in anonymity. Teams used to always attack Fox with short routes, but this year they threw his way less and less. His pass interferences went dramatically down as well. Fox was terrific this year IMO. On a side note, Pitcock should have been the MVP, but whatever.

I love this quote:

"I think our guys are very proud of themselves," Tressel said. "They have a lot of confidence in who they are and what they're about and what their program is about and they don't blink when they have mistakes or errors or bad fortune or whatever it happens to be. They don't blink.

"When we don't do well, we're not afraid to look in the mirror and see how we can do things better. . . . I don't know that there is any secret. We just keep the shovel in the ground and keep digging."

God I love this guy. What a great coach. Really, is there anybody in the country that you'd rather want leading our Buckeyes? Yes, there are guys that could "open up" the offense , but that doesn't mean they would be a better coach and a better fit. The man gets it. If we lose him I think my entire perspective towards life might change. I would become bitter, cynical, and jaded, and I probably would never be able to truly love sports ever again.

The important note here is that he has HOLBROOK's support. Read into that any way you like.

Fox missed some games due to the injury, which cost him when it came to post-season recognition.

Plus, he was playing corner, when obviously he should have been at safety.

CB is my only concern next year. I heard Herbie indicate that Ginn was going to play CB.

They were tossing that idea back and forth during the game, and I think the conclusion that (atleast corso and tirico came up with) was that Ginn as a WR/PR/KR would be more effective than a CB, because of his incredible ability to make a difference every time he touches the ball. What he and the coaches decide is something else. I'd like to see him take a few snaps as CB, if not just to see how well he plays that position.

I actually would perfer him not play CB because I want to reduce the injury possibilities. But you have to do what is best for the team.

FWIW, I hope he gets to return kicks next year. Imagine how good he will be with room to accelerate before the wall!

IMO JT has her support for one reason only... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ A OSU team that beats scUM, wins bowl games, and a NC will bring in a lot more money than one that doesn't. Holebrook loves money, and JT brings in lots of it. Imagine how many boosters would close their wallets if she allowed JT to be fired.

Buckeye Trail: I couldn't agree more. This guy gets it! He may be a little "soft" on the team's troublemakers, in the same way a father is "soft" on a prodigal son, but that doesn't bother me in the least. He loves the kids, he loves the program and he loves the game that his father taught him.

There is no one anywhere I would rather have coach this team. And if he is punished for the F-ups of boosters or poorly-raised 18-year olds, it would be a crime. He has done nothing but good at tOSU. He didn't invent boosterism or the culture of hero worship around Buckeye football. And he didn't raise Louis Irrizarry or Ira Guilford.

He is a great mentor and role model for his players. He upholds, and even burnishes, the great traditions of OSU football. And he teaches a style of football that is sound on fundamentals, emotionally charged in its execution and is at its best against the best teams. He is a winner through and through.

Fortunately, I don't think you'll have to lose your love of sports or get too cynical about life (though a healthy skepticism serves us well in life, in my experience) any time soon, because I think he will be the Buckeyes' coach for a long, long time. When you regularly beat scUM, and occasionally win NCs, your job security in Columbus is pretty well assured.
