Big Ten Bowls

With one game down & another in progress, the B10 is 1-0 to date. Assuming that Minnesota holds on for the win, that would make it 2-0. As far as the rest of them go:

Outback Bowl: (7) Georgia vs. (16) Wisconsin: I think the Badgers will upset the 'Dawgs IF they're motivated (or not too disappointed) from the late season collapse. But under Alvarez, Whisky has avioded those Bowl hangovers in the past. Lets face it: Wisconsin should always be happy being undefeated and in the BCS mix with two games left in the season. They're not a perrenial power and shouldn't EXPECT to be there, and therefore, they shouldn't be too disappointed that they didn't get there.

Reasoning: Whisky has the best D-Line in the country: James is the best outside rusher, and Hawthorne (when motivated) is unblockable. Georgia has better overall talent and speed, but they have a poor O-Line. As we've seen over the years, a great D-Line is a big equalizer especially going against a sieve O-Line. This one's a toss up for me, but because of B10 bias, and because of the fact that Hawthorne is a Connecticut-boy, I'm going with the Badgers.

Capital One Bowl: (11) LSU vs. (12) Iowa: I'm picking the Hawkeyes here because of the Saban situation. I don't know how LSU's kids will come out knowing their coach is bolting for the cash. I think Ferentz is a good Bowl coach (USC blowout in '03 aside), and I can see the Hawkeyes shutting down the LSU offense. Again, this is a toss-up, but I'm going with the bias.

Rose Bowl: (12) scUM vs. (5) Texas: I'm going with Texas here because scUM is a very different team away from home. They look unbeatable in the [censored] House, and have looked average the last two years away from it. I also think that scUM is a tinge overrated this year, and they've got a freshman QB and RB who showed their inexperience against OSU. Marlin Jackson is as overrated as overrated can be. I'm going with Texas here in a "closer than the experts think" game.

That would give the B10 a 4-1 record in the Bowls. This is shaky because I think we could lose all three games tomorrow. Any thoughts? Is 4-1 good enough for the best conference record?

Add in the Purdue-Arizona State game. Without Andrew Walter, I like the Boilers chances. I think the Big-10 needs to go 5-1 to win the Bowl Challenge., since the Big-12 looks to end up 5-2.

I have a thread on page 2 that lists all bowls by conference. I wish someone would respond to that - I can't 'bump' it myself.

I think that 'can't bump your own threads' is a good thing, by the way. It's probably why Donny doesn't seem to post on this board.
