Thanks, LJB, that was interesting and fun to vote on.
I'd match that all-time team against anybody's. And how about the power of the write-in vote for Nuge! |

How is a 3 Time All American not on the FIRST team???
There is a flaw in the voter's thinking here. Tom Skladany was a THREE TIME ALL-AMERICAN!!! He should be without question Ohio State's BEST PUNTER of ALL-TIME and right behind him Tom Tupa who set the modern standard IMO for college punters. Hell, he led the nation as a FRESHMAN (47.1yd avg)! Both of their career stats speak for themselves in this regard.
SKLADANY 1st TEAM TUPA 2nd TEAM HAYN |

Hayn.....
However; Groom hit some punts during a NATIONAL TITLE season that were out of this world.....i think that is why some voted the way they did... I do not have a chance in an arguement with you about punting....and i will not embarrass myself by trying....however; you could argue that groom's field position changing 70 some yarder with almost no return (end of 1st qtr) in the NC game was the best punt ever... And....now that I think about it....and with your knowledge....I would love to (if you have the time) see what you think are the ten best buckeye punts you have ever seen...or booted ![]() |

Those were clutch punts but Skladany is a 3x AA and...

As for the BEST BUCKEYE PUNTS...that's a little too much for me. Too much film review would have to be required. Groom's is up near the top I am sure. As far as I go, one really sticks out in my mind. Against Michigan in '94 pooched one that was downed on the 1 resulting in a safety 2 plays later and then on the ensuing free kick possession Hoying ended the drive with a TD around left end early in the 2nd qtr...9-0. That's all we needed winning 22-6, not allowing a TD and ending the UM curse that had plagued us since 1987! Coach Conley always brought up another one at kicking camps referrencing how important the punt was and its "game-changing" effects. This was the Illinois game in '93 @Champagne where "our punter" (it's like he forgot I was standing right there along side of him! lol) placed the ball at the Illinois 1 yd line into a gusting 40mph wind and our defense held them to a punt. Our punt rush team then "took the ball" right out of the Illinois punter's hands and we scored a TD! It was another game altering play as we went on to win and again lifting a "winless" curse against Illinois. As far as hits off a punt? That's EASY! At MSU I banged one to Derrick Mason and Tito Paul just flat out KILLED HIM! Made ESPN's list of HITS OF THE YEAR! The next time I punted Mason fair caught it on the 5 yd line with nobody near him...LOL! That's all I could come up with considering the lack of time. HAYN hamiltuckbuck Where did you get my blimp photo? Nice edit! I took that during the Michigan game this year and noticed it scrolling by and realized what I could capture if I timed it right. Took about 4 takes but I got it! Just curious to where you found it? Here's the actual photo. HAYN Quote:

Turano's punt against UM this year when we were backed up in our own end of the field (and couldn't move the ball) was pretty amazing. 70 yards or so, and pretty much no return. Had that been a 45 yad punt and breaston had taken it back 15 yards, the game could have been a lot different. Wasn't that the 4 and out (edwards drop) series?

great stuff Hayn....
I vividly remember that punt in 94 you are talking about.....my buddy and i had the nervous nellies about the flow of that game....then the punt to the one....i still can see my buddies face as he yells out over the crowd noise "that is going to be huge.." and it was.... side note to that game: there was an older couple that had season tickets directly infront of mine that year....lets just say i am loud at a game and i have one of those voices that carries.....anyways....all season they give me dirty looks....but after that game they actually thanked me for screaming non-stop for 3 1/2 hours....great game... |
