Deep down, I don't want scUM to go completely in the crapper, program wise. That said, anyone wants them undefeated goinginto the game is absolutely nuts. I don't want them to have a team THAT good-that would mean they were the #1 team in the country every frickin' year-good lord-who would want that?!? Lloyd's handling of things is just fine for me.
Also, anyone who thinks that a guy like Meyer is going to waltz into the Big 10 or SEC and turn it into their personal punching bag is nuts. Can Meyer keep a top caliber program running, w/ recruiting at the accustomed level-yes, probably, but don't go nuts. The talent levels in the WAC and MAC are far from those at big time-SEC,Big 10- conference schools, and there are far fewer highly talented coaches-Tressel,Saban,Tiller,Alvarez,Richt,Fulmer-to A-compete against recruiting wise, and B-match wits with on a gameday level. Meyer is a great prospect, but anyone who thinks he could waltz in and go 10-1 or 11-0 every year at scUM or Florida is smoking big crack........ |

Urban Meyer (Merged)
Most of the teams that had a coach that was moving on did poorly in their bowl games. But Utah was focused.
LSU - lost on last-second bomb Miami Univ - lost Pitt - lost by 28 ND - lost by 17 Syracuse - lost by 37 Florida - lost by 17 But Utah won big. Palko throws for 5 TD's against ND, and Pitt gets only 7 points against Utah. Does anybody believe Utah has better athletes than ND? If you saw the screen pass followed by the hook-and-ladder that went for a TD, you saw what coaching schemes and good execution can do. He'll be interesting to watch in the SEC, where it won't be so easy. And once again, thanks to Mike Tranghese for securing that automatic BCS spot for the Big East. Pitt really looked like they belonged in a BCS game. Utah-Pitt was a much better game than Utah-Cal would have been. |

I feel UM will lead Florida back to NC contention on a regular basis.
Now that he has more talent, and a solid recruiting base, the sky is the limit. Alot of people still don't respect him, but I feel he will win big at Florida. |

It will be interesting to see what UM can do at Florida. The problem he is going to run into are that the athletes on D that he will be facing will be much bigger, stronger, and faster then those he currently works against. Not everything that works in one conference/division will work in another due to the different styles of play, different players, etc, etc. He has only stayed two years at each of the past two schools, it is hard to determine how effective he will be as a long term coach because he has never been a long term (4+ years) coach. Nobody has really even seen what this guy can do recruiting wise, as he is playing with another coach's recruits.

Pittsburgh stinks. They wouldn't have had a winning record in the Big 10. It's a shame that Utah couldn't attempt to prove themeselves against a decent team.

I'm still not sold on Meyer, he beat up on an average Pitt team who had no business being in a BCS game, big deal.
I like his offensive mind, but he won't mop up teams like he did at Utah in the SEC. What I'm interested to see is the Florida fans react to an average season out of Meyer. Maybe they'll stop crying. |

2001 Bowling Green 8-3 2002 Bowling Green 9-3 2003 Utah 10-2 2004 Utah 12-0 His 2001 BGSU team lost to Byron Leftwich's Marshall and Ben Roethlisberger's Miami teams. His 2002 BGSU team lost to a great Northern Illinois team and to Toledo in the MAC championship (played in Toledo). His 2003 Utah team lost to A&M at College Station by only two points. I mean, with an .800 winning percentage and a PF/PA margin of 1700/980, clearly the man can coach. This Utah team went 5-6 before UM arrived. His BGSU team was even worse, having gone 2-9 in 2000 under a ten-year coach, Gary Blackney. Since UM left Bowling Green, BGSU has enjoyed an 11-3 season and another 9-3 season. That 11-3 2003 season included their loss to OSU and losing (again) to Roethlisberger's Miami team (twice). They've gone to, and won, the Motor City Bowl in 2003 and the GMAC Bowl in 2004. It looks to me like UM left BGSU in capable hands and with a ton of talent. Whether the offense has a lot of gadgets and gimmicks isn't really relevent, a good college coach is a good college coach at any level or in any division. A lot of people said the same thing about JT making the jump from D1AA to the big time at OSU, and I think JT has aquitted himself quite nicely. The only thing that will be unique for UM in his new situation is how he handles a culture of fans and boosters that think 10 wins and a BCS bowl is a birthright, as opposed to programs that view 10 wins and a CCG appearance as a bonus. |

I just think the offensive schemes he uses are extremely creative. Lots of diversions. Having an athletic QB like Chris Leak should make the transition pretty easy for Urban. I can see him running a lot of those shotgun double options, or option/shovel pass plays with Chris Leak, DeShawn Wynn or Markus Manson, and a WR like Jemalle Cornelius, who reminds me a little bit of Utah WR Paris Warren.
