Urban Meyer and Florida football (Merged)

If Meyer can hire a good DC and Leak can learn the offense Florida will be a force next year. If I were Meyer I would try to get Alex Smith to come down and help out Leak in the spring.

Yeah I dont doubt that Utah is a good team, but Pitt sucks. The entire Big East sucks. Think they'd have maybe won 1-2 games in the Big 10.

Yes Meyer will have better offensive talent in Florida. My point was there is a bigger increase in defensive talent from a mid level to a major conference then there is in offensive talent from a mid major to a major conference. Mid major teams such as Marshall, Toledo, etc have put the mid major's on the map as far as offense goes. These schools are able to get some of the better players because they get to play right away, they will play in a fun system, and they do get exposure to the NFL.

The same thing doesn't hold true for the defense of mid major teams. There are not comparable players to Moss, Leftwich, Rothesname, Pennington on defense in the NFL. It is also alot easier to find a QB that isn't as highly recruited as say a DB or a DL and turn them into a Pennington or Leftwich. QBs can be developed over the years, you don't develop 6' 2" 300lb monsters whom are quick as lightning. Guys like that are born with those physical traits and they go to schools like OSU, FSU, SCUM, USC, Florida, etc, etc.

I saw that Alex Smith declared for the NFL draft today. He will get drafted and make somebody's team, so i don't think that Urban will be able to afford to bring Alex down to Florida.

According to the Beacon Journal it was both ND and FL that shared those tactics.

"Wilson concedes that Notre Dame and Florida recruiters used the Buckeyes' troubles with the NCAA against them. Eugene Wilson II, who hoped his son would select Notre Dame, said Florida recruiters were particularly negative and that soured the family on the Gators."

It's an unfortuante part of the game.

I know Coach Meyer fairly well, both from his time at OSU and in his current role. He has a tremendous amount of respect for Ohio State, Woody Hayes and he credits a lot of his coaching knowledge to Earl Bruce.

He also inquired about the Head Coach position prior to OSU selecting JT.

I realized it doesn't sound like it, but he really does like OSU.

He obviously doesn't have THAT much respect for OSU. Why would someone who supposedly "respects" a school.... trash and/or allow his recruiters to trash that very school?

His tactics don't scream "respect".... in fact, the complete opposite.

Judge a man by his actions...not by his words...... I think Urban fails both of those.

It's one thing for someone who hates OSU to negatively recruit... but compeltely another for someone who likes the university to do it....

BTW - tell him not to come looking here for a job if things in Florida don't work out for him.... he isn't wanted.

I guess if you didnt know him and read that article, that would be hard to believe, but unfortunately its the world of recruiting....I would hope OSU does not lower themselves to that level, but I fear it has happened.

Seems like coach Tressel instructs his staff a bit differently than some others.

This is a coach that we can be proud of, regardless of what all the rags and bums on Sportscenter say.

Good for the Wilson family to choose class over BS tactics. I just became an even bigger LW fan. Nice to see JT building a quality rep. as a recruiter with integrity. Unlike Petey and others. That reallly makes me proud.

Yes it is unfortunate but negative tactics are part of the game, especially in the SEC. I actually think it is fair game, depending on what they use. It is also unfortunate but their is ammo to use against Ohio State. We have to realize that almost any major recruit we go for we should expect them to bring up to the recruit about all the allegations pushed by ESPN, they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't.

This is what we have to deal with until all of these allegations are proved false.

UM enquired about the OSU job and if JT was in trouble prior to his acceptance of the Fla job. His first choice for a job is TOSU.
