I give Michigan WRs credit for nothing. It was only a matter of time before they started catching the ball with one hand, since they typically drop passes when trying to use two.

Interesting - UF's RB Coach leaves UF, goes laterally to Vols.

Apparently he felt under-utilized, and Meyer felt he wasn't, well, worthwhile.

Sporting News

Quote:
GAINESVILLE - When Stan Drayton left UF to become the running backs coach at rival Tennessee, it ended a rocky working relationship with Urban Meyer.

Drayton said he was frustrated at Florida, and former Gators running back Anthony Gay can attest to that.

He left the team before the 2006 season due to multiple failed drug tests.

Before his career ended, Gay had a meeting with Drayton and Meyer and picked up on the fact that his head coach and his position coach weren't all that friendly.

"They ain’t like this," said Gay, holding up crossed fingers to visually describe it in a September interview. "They’re not even really tight. A lot of days, I've seen Coach Drayton shed tears before. Not in front of (Meyer), but right after practice because of how he acknowledged him, because of how he belittled him."

After consulting with Meyer, Drayton accepted the job at Tennessee on Sunday and announced it to the public on Tuesday.

A source close to the situation said Drayton was told to look for another job, but Drayton reportedly said that he was not fired.

In previous reports, Drayton said that he moved to Tennessee because of its more prominent use of running backs, his family and his future as a coach.

Attempts to reach Meyer and Drayton through UF and Tennessee’s sports information departments were unsuccessful.

Drayton’s voicemail on a Gainesville phone number was full, and he did not respond to a text message sent to that number.

Gay had nothing but praise for Drayton's coaching abilities and also said he fit in well as a player with Meyer.

Drayton was the lowest-paid assistant on Meyer's staff, earning $135,000 per year.

Meyer also might not have had much use for Drayton compared to other assistants since running backs play a smaller role in his spread offense than at other schools, like Tennessee, which have stable running games.

“The offense that we were running at Florida didn’t have much involvement from the running back,” Drayton told the Knoxville News-Sentinel. “There was some frustration there, to be honest with you. But you’re in a community that’s very supportive of Florida. Florida’s been good to me for three years. It was a very comfortable situation, it really was. Urban Meyer made it a very comfortable situation for me.”

Drayton told the paper that Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer called Meyer on Friday morning, likely to ask for permission to speak with Drayton.

Meyer reportedly left a staff meeting to answer the phone, returned and dismissed everyone but Drayton from the room.

“I can’t go into too much detail, but it was a little rough, a little rocky,” Drayton told the paper. “He had a coach that was getting ready to entertain a situation at his rival school. I understood that completely.”
Quick question - does this mean the Vols will retitle running backs the "Crying Game"

I just came over her to post this story.

Just keep on showing that respect fr your coaches Urban, and they'll do the same for you. Makes me feel so much more proud to have the coaching staff we do. The staff that Willie Mobley's mother coined the "Men of Honor".

Other than the statements by the druggie (great source BTW, for an evaluation of a many year professional relationship between coaches - some kid kicked off the team by Meyer) , what exactly do you think that Meyer did wrong here? You insinuate that Meyer did something wrong, or you would not have to be more proud. What? Coaches are never allowed not to retain staff? You should be happy to learn that one of your coaches is bringing your system/secrets over to an in-division bitter rival?

Our running backs (excepting Billy Latsko - our old school fullback in 06) have been a huge disappointment the last few years. If we had production, Tim would not have had to carry the damn ball so much, and maybe his shoulder injury would have been avoided. Get over the loss already Bgriff, and quit trying to demonize Urban. A good shot at an undefeated 2008 Buck season awaits.

Gator:

Will this be Urban's first year with just his players and not Zook's recruits?
