Ah! Life in the SEC! May the Big Ten never, ever go down to that level.

I think we need a more complete timeline of what happened before we can judge Meyer. Now, when did Florida report this to the NCAA or ACT? When did it become clear that Johnson wasn't going to Florida? On January 5th or did Florida know earlier than that?
I don't know that it sounds all that likely that Florida ratted him out after January 5th, the NCAA and ACT acted, and he registered and took another ACT last Thursday. It may be that Florida reported it much earlier than January 5th. I don't know the specifics of his recruiting, so I don't know when Florida was out of it.

I could be wrong but didn't he announce at The AA Army game? Wasn't that game on January 6th?

Datelines aside, one other factor is whether or not Florida Admissions, as a general rule, is required to pass along to NCAA scores that show statistically significant jumps. If true, then it undercuts PJ's assignment of blame and characterization of UF as cowards. (This is a claim being made by Gator fans in their responses to the UM / PJ story.)

Something doesn't make sense...not sure how the Clearinghouse would not flag such a jump until a school points it out.
I have a feeling we are getting half of a story here.

Sounds like the kid is blaming Urban for his suspicious jump in test scores. I highly doubt the NCAA told LSU that Urban ratted him out.

LSU's top-rated football recruit, cornerback Patrick Johnson of Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., said he still plans to join the Tigers even though he was unable to begin school this week as expected after his ACT score was questioned by the NCAA.
...
Johnson said Florida, one of his top three choices (along with Florida State) before he settled on LSU, questioned his academic eligibility with the NCAA. ACT officials subsequently reviewed his test results and "flagged" the October score.
"I'm not upset," Johnson said. "Florida made an issue about the ACT score. They're cowards. They had to go behind my back. But that's OK. We play them this year (on Oct. 11 at Florida)."
Johnson, who committed to LSU on Jan. 5, had expected to arrive in Baton Rouge by Wednesday to begin taking classes and participate in spring practice with an eye toward earning a spot on the two-deep depth chart.
If Johnson does not meet Thursday's registration deadline, he still can sign with LSU on Feb. 6, national signing day, in anticipation of joining the Tigers in the fall.

The guy reportedly had two 16 range ACTs and then suddenly came up with a retest 26. | |
