urban meyer to UF?

WHAT WE ARE HEARING: Meyer may succeed Coach Zook
By Bob Redman
Date: Nov 16, 2004

Gator Country has learned through sources it considers to be extremely credible and accurate that Florida has apparently reached an agreement with Utah's Urban Meyer to succeed Zook as its football coach. An official announcement is not due for a couple more weeks -- we are hearing on or before December 13 -- but Gator Country's sources insist that there is agreement although it is not clear any contract details or if an official contract has been put together.

For guy who had an out clause for OSU, Michigan, and ND this is a very different cluture and region. I thought he was the perfect replacement for JoPa. But money talks and I am sure - if this is true - he will be well taken care of.

I can't recall a young coach who is as universally praised as Meyer - all without ever coaching in a major conference. Would have loved to see him in the Big Ten - provided it is outside Ann Arbor.

If he only has an out-clause for those three schools, than how is he going to Florida. Would Utah let UF bye his contract out?

his buyout for tosu, scum and nd are the "free" buyouts.....

any other school can still buy him out for a very reasonable price....i think it is somewhere in the 250-500k range.....pocket change for a major program...

meyer's agent was wise.....

Meyer has brought up two consecutive programs from noncompetitiveness to the national spotlight. I'm not advocating ditchin JT, but does it seem to anyone else that we may be missin the boat on one of the youngest up and comming coaches in college football?

Those boys were not prepared
Those boys were not Pumped up for that game
Those boys got their asses handed to them by a MEDIOCRE TEAM

I know what was accomplished from a seasonal perspective and i Carr did a hell of a job getting 2 freshman to perform like they did and a 9-2 season is something to be proud of BUT

I am a bit worried and here is why

I seem to remember a team that would go undefeated the whole regular season until they got to their Rival game. after a while it became a joke and the national media never gave that team a chance after a couple of years of posing like a National Championship team. The Coach was great at Recruiting and he won a lot of games but he couldnt beat his rival. The problem was that they couldnt get rid of him because he won enough games to keep his job. Overtime they lost the luster of their program and eventually they had to bring in some new blood.

That was OSU under John Cooper.

Here is my thinking.

Lloyd is now 1-3 vs OSU over the past 4 years. My big question is at what point does losing to OSU become unacceptable? 1-5, 2-7, or 2-11-1.

Now most will think this is no big deal but if we lose next year at home I will be willing to let Carr go largely because i want to nip that trend in the butt and Carr will be 1-4 vs OSU.

Personally i think the best guy for the job would be Urban Meyer at Utah. I think he would put Tressell back in his place and we wouldnt have the annual let down we always have. Meyer i think is the best coach in NCAA football and someone is going to grab him

"Nip that trend in the butt"...uh, nice use of the English language right there.

"Tressell back in his place"

OK, let's get one thing straight, genious...that's one "L" in Tressel, and 3 "L"s in Llloyd
