Are they going to make cities change their names away from Indian names before these postseason events can take place there? I'd hate to think that Indianapolis could still hold NCAA tournament games. "City of Indians" sounds so insulting!

thats an excellent point zurp. and what about cities named for people whose actions were harmful to indians? such as columbus? you'd think honoring someone whose actions lead to the death of a significant number of indians would be far more offensive than using their names...

Just think how hypocritical that would be if the NCAA headquarters were located there.

I'm usually on the NCAA's side when they do things that seem, at first glance, to be heartless or cruel or stupid. Stuff like not letting a player raise money so his parents can go see him play a football game. But that's not relevant here, anyway. I just don't understand the NCAA. If they're going to begin the ball rolling on this issue, they should let it roll all the way to its disastrous end. Otherwise, keep it where it was.

That's actually a pretty good point. If they are going to start to crack down on the use of nationalities as mascots, why would one group be more sensitive than the next?
It's all complete bull[censored]. I want to know if there is actually a group of native americans out there protesting the mascots, because in my mind the mascots are actually honoring them, putting them up on a pedestal as warriors and their symbol.
But I guess after centuries of abuse, murder, and taking away homes and tribal lands, making schools stop using their image as a mascot would be a nice reparation .
