USC's Dominance
is this school going to slow down eventually? think about it, they play in the Pac-10 with the only team that has a chance is Cal, they sign top recruiting classes the past couple years, because they can promise playing time, great player development, serious title hopes, cheerleaders, the beach, etc. also pete caroll wont be heading off to the NFL anytime soon.
they lost Norm Chow, and lose Matt Leinart this year. i honestly can not see them losing their number one status for quite a while, they have so many high school all americans and everything and just continue to bring in the best in the country at every position.
another thing is that pete caroll does a great job of keeping his players hungry, so i dont think they will let up and be surprised. i think they lose a game this year in the regular season but for the long term what could stop them?

Wasn't all that long ago that the same was being said about Miami and Oklahoma. Both coaches got all the hype, Miami in particular was getting all the top talent, and pulling from one of the richest state in terms of it. OU at least had to face the Big XII, but Miami had a softer home in the Big East than USC does in the Pac 10 (although one wonders by how much).
USC does indeed have everything going for it right now, but football, like everything else, is cyclical, and someone new will step up. I don't see USC "drifting towards mediocrity" to borrow from the Nebraska AD's comment when Solich was fired (there are the remains of perhaps the strongest "dynasty" of everyone mentioned before) any time soon, they'll probably be in the running every single year. But then, that's true for a few programs, and one could reasonably argue we're one of them. Sure, an easier truth for them right now than for us, or really for anyone else. There's little doubt that they are #1 and the rest of us are trying to catch up, but as we know well, the best team in the country can have an off day, and it only takes one sometimes.

We'll see how dominant they are without Norm Chow.

personally, im tired of recruits considering only "warm weather" schools, i understand why but it gets old that we arent in on somebody because its cold in ohio. thats their choice i guess.
norm chow is a big loss, didnt leinhart say that he was staying because norm was?

If a guy is choosing a school because of weather, then I'm not sure he's the kind of guy that you want on your team. If that is a factor that tips the scale toward a school that's in close contention to a cold weather school then fine, but for that to be reason to completely rule a school out, you have to wonder how tough the kid really is.

I think we tend to be slower than some others when it comes to oos talent. I know Tressel is aware of this and thus the reason for hiring someone to start earlier talent evaluation.

As I have said before, I'm predicting a loss by them at some point during the regular season this year. I think they're better on paper than every team on their schedule. However, they already had too many close calls last year, even though the college football media would like us to believe they won every game by 30+ points. Sooner or later scraping by in the close games catches up with you. Carroll may be a good recruiter, but I think this year his lack of coaching ability and former reliance on Chow will be evidenced.
