Leinart And Other Thoughts
Well, after his performance and Reggie Bushs' performance, I think Archies record is safe for another year at least. For all the lovin' that Leinart gets, I thought he was below average in the ND game. He missed passes all day long, even before he got the bell rung. Too high, too low, behind receivers, he had them all. Every time I've watched SC, he doesn't feel much pressure, so he has all day to lob those passes to the guys. It seems that they have alot of yac for him.
I wondered how he would react when getting pressured and hit by a great defense. I'm not sure ND's is that defense but they clearly made him look below average. I don't want to hear about that great 4th and long play either. That pass was off as well.
If SC finishes the season undefeated and has to face a great defense like Texas or VT, I think they very well could lose. It sure would be a great game.
If I'm an NFL gm, no way am I taking Leinart first, not after Saturday. He'll feel heat every week from NFL defenses and I'm starting to think he really may be overrated. Is he going to follow other former SC lefties into the NFL and become like Paul McDonald and Todd Marinovich? Probably not, but I wouldn't take the chance on him. Too many qb's that were great in college have stunk in the NFL. The latest being Joey Harrington.
If LLoyd Carr had any brains (i know), he'd make Mario Manningham the center of his offense. He's better than Breaston or Avant. Fortunately, we know Lloyd does not, so we have nothing to be concerned with. It's nice to see a local kid do well, even if it's at scUM, and especially when they have 3 losses.
This was one of the best college football weeks I can ever remember. Aside from T. Smith having the worst looking game ever by a qb that produced great stats, the last play of the 1st half, and much of the 2nd half of the OSU game was great. twelve sack by the D was fantastic. ND-SC game, PSU-scUM game and the Louisville-WVa. games were all great. And, it's always great to see FSU lose. CFB is the best.
Stanton played qb like it should be played: he looked off receivers, threw hard balls right on target, and made some great cross-field passes.
Is it possible that Troy Smiths size hinders him at being able to see well over the line and look to other receivers? Don't know.
Gonzo is too good not to touch the ball in 2 straight games.
Does Pittman pull the typical OSU rb performance this weekend against Indiana? They seem better this year.
We're halfway through the season and it's already getting me sick.
A radio host in Cleveland was saying Hawk is/was similar to Wilhelm and he's not starting yet in the NFL. He was more or less implying Hawk will be more like MW in the pros. Speed alone sets him apart, but Hawk has just had IT since he's been in Columbus. Not speed, but IT.

That radio guy's an assclown. Wilhelm got to roam behind that great 2002 D-line. Our D-line now is good, but nowhere near the level of 2002. Hawk does have IT, and will be a star in the NFL for years.
I thought I'd beat LJB to the punch on the 2002 D-line thing this time, so he doesn't have to sound like a broken record.

Wilhelm was good, but I thought he was the least talented of our AA players on that team. Hawk is getting heisman talk, and is able to overshadow a complete monster named Bobby Carpenter.

how big does he have to be exactly? He looks pretty identical to James Ferrior, who is 6'2 and 243. Keith Brooking 6'2 and 245. Ted Bruschi 6'1 and 245. Those are 3 ILB's from recent pro bowls. A.J. Hawk is 6'1 and 240+, and he's faster than many of the previously mentioned guys. Nobody is a lock to be a star, but his size is not going to be his downfall.
