Michigan WR Mario Manningham (official thread)

Dude Not to be mean but your an idiot. This kid will be a mid to late first and thinking how the combine will only help him because he runs a 4.35-4.4 flat. He had a [censored]ty game against us but he isn't with michigan no more and ur putting down the big ten.

Sheesh, what is with the big ten police tonight? I like Arrington a lot, and think he's a much more complete WR. I think Hardy is a very talented lump of clay to mold. How many before my big ten card is returned?

He did have a bad game against us but he is good dude, watch some film

Um ok. I've been watching him for three years, and am glad he's not playing college football anymore, b/c he was dynamic. That doesn't mean I like his game translating to the next level.

When I watch him play, I see lousy blocking, limited route running, inconsistent hands, lack of concentration/toughness over the middle. I see very good, not great speed, a filthy double move, tremendous deep ball ability, and good not great return ability.

Which of my criticisms do you disagree with?

When I think of jump balls, I think of 50-50 balls. When I think of jump ball WRs, I think of guys who can elevate, hang, and dominate the poor DB asked to defend him. Does Santonio Holmes, Santana Moss, and Marvin Harrison have to jump that much for balls? NO, because they use their speed and elusiveness to get the job done. Should Mario have slowed down against teams to prove that he can out jump defenders instead of just running away from them? When he had to make a leaping catch, he made it.

Your talking to a guy who saw Mario make a leaping one handed catch in the rain against Massillon Washington when he was in high school. Somebody who saw Mario dunk in almost every basketball game when he played for Coach Steve Arnold at Warren Harding. I think that I have a pretty good idea of how high that he can jump.

You're entitled to your opinion, but it's tainted because he never really dominated Ohio State. He certainly didn't have his best game against them this year, but we won't even talk abut how bad he smoked Jenkins/O'Neal last year whgen Henne overthrew him, which he (Henne) did quite often. Mario doesn't need me or anybody else to defend him, but you need to take your scarlet & grey glasses off for a minute.

I actually honestly think he will be like marvin harrison in the next level when he gets all his skills groomed. He is still fresh and has alot to learn and will get better year by year. I am glad he is gone.

For Mario's size, he does a great job of attacking the ball at its highest point. I think that's what they meant as a "jump ball" receiver.

And yes, Braylon was and is incredible at this.

i hope he continues to drop passes in the league just like braylon. if they are wide open and outrun the db wow touchdown but clutch, 3rd down, big time receivers, when you need a play, they are not.

Well I would not label those guys as jump ball wrs, but they are great route runners, have great hands, and are tough over the middle. Worm, I think we're arguinig over semantics... I don't mean to suggest he's unathletic or that he's got the hops of gheorge muresan, I just don't look at him as a great jumpball wr in the mold of braylon, calvin & andre johnson, etc.

If you say so. I have been a pretty big fan of Hart's on this board, even picked him over Wells in a crunch time hypothetical (due to Hart's proven record vs Beanie's very young career) in an early season thread (would not hold that stance any longer ).

I've seen the guy dominate endless DBs deep, and flash tremendous athleticism and big play potential. I just think he is lacking in a number of fundamentals of the position. I laid out my list above. Feel free to argue where I'm offbase.

No need to argue bro. It is what it is. I'm not trying to make Manningham out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. I don't have to, because what he did on the field speaks fro itself. Besides, regardless of what I say, it won't change what NFL GMs think.

My reasons for supporting Mario are completely different from everybody else's, and once again you are entitled to your opinion. I'm not going to waste too much energy trying to make you think otherwise because it's pointless. You & I both know that Manningham is going to blow the Combine out of the water, so that will only add to his stock.

We'll see what happens in April, but if people truely believe that Mario isn't a first rounder, then I think that they'll be surprised.

I don't think he will "blow the combine out of the water" as you said. They do have pass catching drills at the combine. It isn't all sprints, vertical jump, and weight lifting. We'll see if he shows concentration when those machines are rocketing balls at him. He is a great receiver but he does have the dropsys. I agree that he is prolly a first round pick though.

This young man is a special person....had a lot of trails and tribulations that would derail most...he's still friends with some teachers back in Warren and talks with them on a regular basis.....I was disappointed he didn't stay in state for college but I wish him well in his NFL career. Big Congrats!

INDIANAPOLIS ? From the moment Mario Manningham entered the football scene as a sophomore at Warren G. Harding High School, his destiny was to play in the National Football League.

There wasn?t a defensive back in high school who could deal with his moves and explosive speed as a receiver for the Raiders. Manningham was also a better-than-average defensive back, and opponents dared not let him get his hands on the ball returning a punt or kickoff.

Having decided to leave the University of Michigan with one year of eligibility remaining, Manningham?s road to the NFL will occur on Saturday, April 26, when his name is expected to be announced sometime during the first round of the draft. It wasn?t any easy decision to leave Michigan, but the changes that will accompany Rich Rodriguez?s arrival as coach made it the right time for him to move on.

??I discussed it with my family and prayed over it,?? Manningham said Friday during a break at the NFL combine at the RCA Dome.
