OSU's Tressel roots for Zips Coach got his start with UA By Marla Ridenour - Beacon Journal sportswriter <!-- begin body-content --> COLUMBUS - Ohio State coach Jim Tressel remembers his roots. So when the University of Akron plays in its first Division I bowl game today, Tressel will be pulling for the school that gave him his start in coaching. Jim Dennison hired Tressel as a graduate assistant in 1975 and Tressel later coached quarterbacks, receivers and running backs from 1976-78. He earned a master's in education from UA in 1977. "To have my graduate alma mater going to their first bowl game and having won their first championship, I'm excited for them,'' Tressel said. "They will have the time of their lives and it will be a great thing to build on.'' When Tressel was at Akron, the Zips went to the national-championship game in Division II, losing 24-13 to Montana State. Tressel also has a tie to Zips coach J.D. Brookhart, who works at Tressel's camps. The two became friendly when Tressel coached at Youngstown State and went to Pitt to visit Brookhart. "We took one of his concepts and it was huge for us at Youngstown State,'' Tressel said. "J.D. is a great teacher.'' ======= BTW, I gave the names of all you folks who bet on Memphis to Tressel... |

Akron's defense is good - against the pass ...
Williams will not gain any more than 345 yards today... Over/under on this one should be 100... |
|
|||||||||
|
So this Williams guy is tied with Archie and Tony Dorsett for most career 100 yard games at 33.

So far...'Kron has done a pretty good job of containing Williams, and the Memphis offense.

Williams just broke a nice run for about 30 yds.

Screw Akron. I can't belive how frigging terrible this offense is...absolutely awful. The receiver drops everything, the QB bounces the ball to guys...I'm screwed. On the flip side, the D was really good, except for the D-back who couldn't stop a pass of over 20 yards. The kid from Massillon Jackson is a warrior.
And I'm frigging tired of the D'Angelo Williams spooge-fest. I'm sure he's a fine young man and all, but any guesses as to how many 100-yard games he would have had in the Big 10? 12? 15 maybe? Gaining 100 playing UAB and Houston every week doesn't impress me much. |

My thoughts exactly Bucklion.
I'm sure he deserves a ton of respect, due to players like Randy Moss (who's been a success in the NFL IMHO) putting up gaudy numbers at a school in a middle-tier conference, but let's be honest...look who he's running against. <TABLE class=tablehead cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3><TBODY><TR class=stathead align=middle bgColor=#29299c><TD align=left colSpan=3>2005 Game Log</TD><TD colSpan=5>Rushing</TD><TD colSpan=5>Receiving</TD><TD colSpan=2>Fumbles</TD></TR></TR><TR class=colhead align=right><TD align=left>DATE</TD><TD align=left>OPP</TD><TD align=left>RESULT </TD><TD>ATT</TD><TD>YDS</TD><TD>AVG</TD><TD>LNG</TD><TD>TD</TD><TD>REC</TD><TD>YDS</TD><TD>AVG</TD><TD>LNG</TD><TD>TD</TD><TD>FUM</TD><TD>LST</TD></TR><TR class=oddrow align=right><TD align=left>9/5</TD><TD align=left>Mississippi</TD><TD align=left>L 10-6 </TD><TD>24</TD><TD>85</TD><TD>3.5</TD><TD>26</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>14</TD><TD>7.0</TD><TD>10</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=evenrow align=right><TD align=left>9/17</TD><TD align=left>UT-Chattanooga</TD><TD align=left>W 59-14 </TD><TD>20</TD><TD>205</TD><TD>10.3</TD><TD>42</TD><TD>3</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>3</TD><TD>3.0</TD><TD>3</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=oddrow align=right><TD align=left>9/24</TD><TD align=left>@Tulsa</TD><TD align=left>L 37-31 </TD><TD>30</TD><TD>223</TD><TD>7.4</TD><TD>48</TD><TD>3</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>1.0</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=evenrow align=right><TD align=left>10/1</TD><TD align=left>UTEP</TD><TD align=left>W 27-20 </TD><TD>35</TD><TD>236</TD><TD>6.7</TD><TD>74</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>3</TD><TD>3</TD><TD>1.0</TD><TD>6</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=oddrow align=right><TD align=left>10/8</TD><TD align=left>@Central Florida</TD><TD align=left>L 38-17 </TD><TD>14</TD><TD>136</TD><TD>9.7</TD><TD>76</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>16</TD><TD>8.0</TD><TD>9</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=evenrow align=right><TD align=left>10/15</TD><TD align=left>@Houston</TD><TD align=left>W 35-20 </TD><TD>33</TD><TD>198</TD><TD>6.0</TD><TD>35</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0.0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=oddrow align=right><TD align=left>10/22</TD><TD align=left>East Carolina</TD><TD align=left>W 27-24 </TD><TD>39</TD><TD>226</TD><TD>5.8</TD><TD>63</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>14</TD><TD>14.0</TD><TD>14</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=evenrow align=right><TD align=left>11/1</TD><TD align=left>UAB</TD><TD align=left>L 37-20 </TD><TD>21</TD><TD>167</TD><TD>8.0</TD><TD>76</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0.0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=oddrow align=right><TD align=left>11/12</TD><TD align=left>@Tennessee</TD><TD align=left>L 20-16 </TD><TD align=middle colSpan=13>Did Not Play or No Stats Accumulated</TD></TR><TR class=evenrow align=right><TD align=left>11/19</TD><TD align=left>@Southern Miss</TD><TD align=left>W 24-22 </TD><TD>36</TD><TD>123</TD><TD>3.4</TD><TD>15</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>29</TD><TD>29.0</TD><TD>29</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=oddrow align=right><TD align=left>11/26</TD><TD align=left>Marshall</TD><TD align=left>W 26-3 </TD><TD>27</TD><TD>127</TD><TD>4.7</TD><TD>28</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0.0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR><TR class=evenrow align=right><TD align=left>Motor City Bowl</TD><TD align=left>@Akron</TD><TD align=left>4:00 PM</TD><!--Questions--><TD>22</TD><TD>120</TD><TD>5.5</TD><TD>31</TD><TD>2</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>-1</TD><TD>-1.0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD><TD>0</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> |

Well, Akron set up a screen pass for a 72 yard TD, but then DeAngelo Williams comes back with a TD in TWO plays.
