However, the NCAA didn't hit Ohio State nearly as hard for Clarett as they did for OB.....

Very true. It's just amazing we get hit every time there is even a hint of wrong doing. USC gets nothing and barely is ever bad mouthed by the media. Hell ESPN was smearing us before all the facts ever even came out about either situation we were involved in.

Second thing, if Ohio State did something wrong and reported it, I don't have a problem with that.

If USC isn't reporting anything, maybe they don't have anything to report. Now the natural-born cynic in me says where there is smoke there is fire, but the NCAA has a set out procedure for these things.....

I don't really have any beef with the media and I agree when OSU does stuff wrong they should get punished. I just want Bush and USC to get what is coming to them. You can't tell me that the amount of money Bush supposedly got doesn't raise eyebrows it just doesn't make any sense. That and our punishment seemed to be handed down rather quickly while absolutely nothing has happend to USC yet. I just want what's coming to them.

Well ohio State's punishment came down quickly because Ohio State self-reported quickly. That and Andy Geiger fell on his sword for the entire program.

You don't have anyone doing that at USC. That's what matters. If they did know about what was going on with Bush and didn't do anything, that might be something, but I don't think anything is out there to put USC in a bad position at the moment.

If no one is talking to the NCAA, no one is talking to the Pac-10. Besides if the NCAA isn't going to take any action against USC sure as hell the Pac-10 won't.....

Pac-10 historically has been tougher in these situation than the NCCA not sure if that's true today but it seems to be a common observation in Pac-10 country.

If Atlanta is truly serious about offering Carroll personnel control, he's as good as gone to the Falcons. The duo of NFL failures will eat at this guy until the day he dies if he doesn't give it another go within the confines of an organization willing to give him as much control as possible.

The Falcons just hired a new general manager, and in any event, I don't get the impression that Petey is their #1 guy for coaching candidates.

It's been said he's no longer in the running. Besides, even if he was, I couldn't see him leaving one of, if not the, best jobs in CFB for one of the worst in the NFL.

WASHINGTON -- Pete Carroll met with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder for nine hours recently, but both sides decided not to pursue the possibility of the USC coach heading to Washington.

Snyder and Carroll met in St. Louis "early in the process" following coach Joe Gibbs' resignation on Jan. 8, a person familiar with the selection process told The Associated Press on Monday. Carroll was comfortable with the Redskins front office structure and much of the coaching staff, the person said, but the former New York Jets and New England Patriots coach decided to remain in the college ranks.

The NFL Network first reported the meeting on Sunday night, citing multiple NFL sources.

Carroll also talked with the Atlanta Falcons about their head coaching opening, but didn't go further with that job as well.

I know 'SC fans typically try and let this type of stuff roll like water of a duck's back. But, seriously, isn't it indicative of a desire to actually get back to the NFL that Carroll wants to be in the talk for openings at the end of each season. If so, wouldn't that concern them - greatly?

He still hasn't found what he's looking for - in the NFL.

SC fans around here seem to go into two different sections:

Section 1) Diehard fans who have watched for years, who listen intently to the media everytime Petey talks and fear him leaving. A lot of season ticket holders and alumni.

Section 2) Southern California fans, the same guys who like the Kings and the Ducks, the Lakers and the Clippers, UCLA or USC, all depending on who's successful. They seem to believe that USC gets such great talent that Jeffcat could roll in there and coach them to a National title, despite the record prior to Carroll coming to USC.

If that helps explain anything. If UCLA does well in three years, and USC falls, this half the state will be wearing the Blue and Gold, changing the flags, stickers and license plate frames on their cars.

I used to think it was an exaggeration until a few years ago when the Clippers did better than the Lakers and we suddenly had to endur Clippers radio and Clippers window flags all over the city.

The Los Angeles basin is nothing but 'being about hype'. that means the newest, hottest, thing going. Hence the Clips grabbing tv and radio time from the Lakers, and USC being the hottest thing around.

Petey is the uncrowned king of LA (maybe up there with the Hollywood glitteratti) to the football fans (remember USC is the only pro team there), UCLA folks are always lurking in the weeds. So it would take plenty to get him out of that cozy little nest. Ego, hey, as one gets older, one's ego gets 'settled' and is able to cope with not being the best at everything. I expect he's making much more money than is published, so that's not an issue, so why rebuild a pro team?

However, ego is still there, and just because one is asked to go to the dance, doesn't mean that one has to accept. Buuuuut, Petey still yearns to be asked. And as long as he goes on an occassional interview, he's still 'in play'. No harm, no foul, and it keeps SC administration on their toes.
